NBA Parlay for Friday January 7th, 2022

Following a four-game Thursday night slate, the NBA is back on Friday with a nine-game slate to kick off a jam-packed weekend of action. While the team’s across the league are mostly coming out of their COVID-protocol-induced limbo periods, some are still going through it.

Let’s take a closer look.

Leg #1. Timberwolves-Thunder Under 216.5 | -110 at DK Sportsbook

The worst offensive team in the NBA will again take the court (Thunder) in Oklahoma City, this time hosting the Timberwolves on the second of a two-game series between the teams. When they last took the court Wednesday, we cashed the Under on the inflated total (219) as the game stayed well below 100, and the Timberwolves picked up the 98-90 win.

With the loss and 90 points, the Thunder remains the only team in the NBA averaging less than 100 points per game, as their FG% sunk even lower 41.3% per game. Look for a similar result in this one, with a Timberwolves team now shooting just 42.2% from the field.

Leg #2. Mavericks -2 | -110 at DK Sportsbook

The Mavericks come into this one quietly one of the hottest teams in the league as of late, having won four straight games while playing stifling defense. Dating back their last five games, the Mavericks have allowed no more than 96 points per game, including three consecutive games of keeping their opponents to 89 points or less.

That should spell trouble for the Rockets in this one, as they come in having lost nine of their last 10 as issues have ripped through the team internally. While the Mavs have a host of stars out for this one, I think they still have enough to get the job done against a reeling Rockets squad.

Leg #3. Hawks ML | +130 at DK Sportsbook

Trae Young comes into this one off one of the best performances of his career, a 56-point triple-double against the Trail Blazers on Monday. Sitting out the one game since with a lower back bruise (and rest), Young comes into this one fully rested and is getting some help back. Sitting out the last couple of games because of COVID protocols, John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Jalen Johnson are expected to return for this one.

For the home Lakers, a win against the Kings was their third in three games and four in five. However, not all wins are made the same, as the Laker’s four victories have come against some of the worst teams in the league in the Rockets, Trail Blazers, and Timberwolves. Until Anthony Davis is fully back healthy, I’m not buying the recent success of a Lakers team still allowing 112 points per game defensively.
