Monday’s Best NBA Picks & Predictions
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
New Orleans Pelicans at Memphis Grizzlies
The Pelicans (2-4) are coming off an impressive 121-99 win over the Hawks. They caught fire from the field, shooting 56%. They also hit 41% from the three-point line. New Orleans has now won two in a row, beating the Kings in the game before. But they’re in a tough spot on the road on Monday.
That’s because they’re facing a red-hot Grizzlies team that has won six straight to start the season. Memphis just blew out the Kings and Trail Blazers in their last two games. Ty Jerome has been spectacular, averaging 25.8 points per game, while rookie Cameron Boozer is putting up a double-double. Needless to say, the Grizzlies are the biggest story early in the season.
What’s most impressive about the Grizzlies is that they’re currently third in offensive rating and second in defensive rating. That’s the kind of balance you want to see. With how they’re firing on all cylinders, I’m willing to lay 5.5 points at home in a winnable game against a below-.500 team like the Pelicans.
Pick: Grizzlies -5.5 (-118)
Sacramento Kings at Dallas Mavericks
The Kings (0-6) are one of the worst teams in the NBA. They just lost 136-105 to the Grizzlies on October 31st. They’ve now lost by double digits in five of their last six games. The team ranks 28th in offensive rating and 29th in defensive rating. That puts them in a tough spot on the road against an underrated Mavericks team.
The Mavericks (4-2) are much better than expected, with a three-game winning streak and wins over the Rockets, Thunder and Heat. Those are three of the best teams in their respective conferences. The Mavericks are putting the league on notice, starting with second-year superstar Cooper Flagg. He has taken his game to a new level, averaging 26.8 points, six rebounds and 6.6 assists on 55.7% shooting from the field.
Facing an abysmal Kings team, this has blowout written all over it. We’re getting a slight discount because Kyrie Irving is questionable with a knee injury. But even if Irving is out, Flagg is playing so well that he should be able to carry the load against the Kings. With that in mind, I’m laying 9.5 points on the Mavericks here.
Pick: Mavericks -9.5 (-114)
