Brooklyn Nets at Dallas Mavericks
The Nets (2-7) are one of the worst teams in the NBA. They rank 26th in offensive rating and 19th in defensive rating. Brooklyn has struggled to score, averaging only 108.2 points per game (26th). They’ve also struggled to protect the ball, ranking 26th in turnovers.
They’re in a tough spot on the second night of a back-to-back, coming off a 124-121 loss to the Hawks. They’ll face the Mavericks (5-4), who rank 17th in offensive rating and 11th in defensive rating. The Mavericks are efficient, ranking 11th in field-goal rate.
Unlike the Nets, the Mavericks are not on the second leg of a back-to-back. They’re playing on one day of rest. With Cooper Flagg playing at a high level and on the rise to superstardom, I like Dallas to take care of business at home. There’s a legitimate chance this turns into a blowout.
We’ll go with the Mavericks -7.5 here.

Miami Heat at Sacramento Kings
The Heat (3-6) are off to a slow start to the Giannis Antetokounmpo era, losing two of their last three games. They’re fresh off a 120-100 blowout loss to the Warriors, but that was the second leg of a back-to-back against a red-hot team. They have had two full days of rest and will face one of the worst teams in the NBA.
The Kings (1-8) are off to an atrocious start. The Spurs just blew them out 124-109. Rookie Darius Acuff has been extremely promising, but the team ranks 25th in offensive rating and 29th in defensive rating. The Kings fit the exact profile the Heat need to face right now to get their season on track.
In a get-right spot for the Heat, we’ll lay the 9.5 points. It wouldn’t be surprising if this one turned into a blowout.
