Boston will be looking to even this series up tonight and move one step closer to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics will be without their top-scoring option in Jayson Tatum on the floor going forward, so it will take a collective approach to bring the series to three wins a piece. Despite being down 3-2 going into this contest, and without their star player for the remainder of the playoffs, there's still a path for Boston to pick up a win tonight at Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks have hosted the Celtics on four occasions this season, resulting in Boston  coming away with a victory in three out of four contests. While the absence of Tatum obviously changes the grand scheme of things, the Celtics averaged a point differential of 17 in the three games prior to May 12.
Boston won 77% of their games played on the road, and this is absolutely their most important away contest to date. The Celtics are in a tough environment, and down a major cog in their machine. However, we feel Boston digs deep tonight, and pushes the series to a Game 7.
The Celtics have scored at least 105 points or more in all five games played at Madison Square Garden this season. Boston is averaging over 119 points in the previous five contests on the road in NY, and are shooting 49% as a team over that soan.
The Celtics are averaging 108.2 points over ten playoff contests, and have exceed 104.5 points in seven out of ten games. Boston is shooting 45.1% from the field during 2024-25 Playoffs, while knocking down 14.4 three-pointers each game. The Celtics are scoring 110.6 points over the last 10 contests played on the road, and have exceeded the threshold of 104.5 points in three straight games played as the away team.
Derrick White has been one of the only consistent contributors during the second round of playoff basketball for the Boston Celtics. The Boston guard is averaging 19.9 points, in the playoffs, on 47.8% shooting from the field, while knocking down 3.8 three-pointers in the process.
With Kristaps Porzingis dealing with an illness, and playing sparingly, and now Jayson Tatum sidelined for the playoffs, White has proven to be a solid source of offensive production. The increase in opportunity has resulted in three out of five contests where White has reached 20+ points. The veteran guard is averaging 22.6 points in the last five games of this series against New York.
This will be our wild card selection for tonight, yet, there are a few facets that make this less of a long-shot as it seems. Derrick White has been the first player to record two three-pointers in the last two consecutive contests, and the Boston guard will have every opportunity to make it three in a row tonight.
Derrick White is averaging 2.4 three-pointers in the first quarter against the Knicks over five games games. The veteran guard for the Celtics has knocked-down four three-pointers in the first quarter in the last two contests, and has only missed one out of the last 12 attempts from beyond the arc, over the last four games against New York.
