Atlanta Hawks at Denver Nuggets

The Hawks continue to play well, as they are 11-4 in their last 15. The offense is what makes this team great, and it isn't just Trae Young doing the scoring. He's actually been a better facilitator as he leads the league with 12.1 assists per game. It's been with the help of scoring from De'Andre Hunter and Jalen Johnson, who each average 20 points per game.

The only thing that could potentially prevent them from being a playoff contender is their defense. They are 26th in points allowed per game (118.8) and 17th in defensive efficiency (1.102). The Eastern Conference has some of the top offenses, including Boston, Cleveland and New York. It won’t be easy to outscore them in a seven-game series.

Just when you think Nikola Jokic can’t do anything else astonishing, he just does it. Scoring a triple-double is nothing new for him, as he's third all-time in triple-doubles (143), but he's coming off putting up a dominant one with 36 points, 11 assists and an outstanding season-high 22 rebounds. He makes this team a contender and is leading with a +28.8 on/off efficiency differential and +57 expected wins. This shows that if the Nuggets didn’t have Jokic, they would likely be a bottom-tier team.

This will be a fun game to watch. We should have a shootout and the stars should put up some good stat lines.

Dallas Mavericks at Houston Rockets

If you want to talk about an important player for their team, you must mention Luka Doncic. He's missed 11 games this year as he's dealt with multiple injuries. This time, a strained calf could keep him out through January. The last three games have not gone so well for the Mavericks. They barely won against the Suns, but they have dropped back-to-back games to Portland, who have the third-worst record in the Western Conference, and the Kings, who just fired their head coach.

This will be the best competition they've faced since Doncic’s most recent absence. The Rockets barely missed the playoffs last season and they look good this season as they currently hold the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. They are one of the toughest defenses, as they rank third in adjusted defensive rating. They aren't an explosive defense, but the trio of Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun and Fred VanVleet has worked well this year.
