Brooklyn Nets at Orlando Magic

Cam Thomas is the head of the Brooklyn scoring attack by a landslide. Regardless of whether the Nets keep contests close or not, one thing will be a constant this season: Thomas will get buckets.

The third-year standout will have the opportunity to take on a much more prominent role this season for Brooklyn. In their first contest against Atlanta, Thomas scored 36 points on 51.9% shooting from the field and 53.8% from beyond the arc in 34 minutes.

Paolo Banchero is Orlando’s top scoring option. In the first game of the season, he went wild on a tough Miami defense, scoring 33 points on 50% shooting from the field, with four three-pointers on eight attempts.

Scoring on Brooklyn is a lot less difficult than against Miami. Banchero attempted 24 shots in the Magic's first contest. There's good reason to expect about the same, if not more, in this contest.

We close out the last leg with a bit of a sneaky play many may overlook considering the plethora of options in this contest. Wendell Carter Jr. played 27 minutes in the first game for the Magic and was an absolute force on the boards finishing with 14 rebounds.

Carter Jr. only attempted seven shots, with Banchero and Franz Wagner scoring most of the points for Orlando. However, tonight he faces a much more gracious defense in Brooklyn. On Wednesday, the Nets gave up 11 points and nine rebounds to Atlanta center Clint Capela in only 19 minutes on the floor.

We hope Brooklyn can keep this contest close so Orlando does not have the opportunity to limit minutes for their starting unit to preserve energy for tomorrow's contest against Memphis on the road.

Memphis Grizzlies at Houston Rockets

Memphis is in a tough spot here against a highly talented and determined Houston team looking to get into the win column after a disappointing loss against Charlotte to begin the season. The Grizzlies be without Jaren Jackson Jr. for the second game of the season.

This will also be the first of two games in as many days for Houston, who take the short trip to San Antonio tomorrow to take on the Spurs.

Both teams showed the ability to make baskets in their first contests, with over 110 scored by each. Houston poses a far greater defensive threat than the Utah Jazz collectively, which is why we feel Memphis could fall short in this contest.

In a matchup where both squads can score at will, it simply seems best to back the stronger defense. In four matchups against Memphis last season, the Rockets were successful in three of those games. Ja Morant was not present for those contests. However, with Jackson out, the Grizzlies will have to rely on rookie Zach Edey to protect the rim against Houston - a tall task, to say the least.

Amen Thompson comes into this contest after scoring 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting in only 22 minutes of playing time against Charlotte on Wednesday. Since the beginning of preseason, Thompson has fallen short of scoring 10+ once in five games.

The Houston forward has attempted eight shots or more in all five of those games. The playing time ranges from 20 to 27 minutes, so we'd certainly rather the latter in what should be a fast-paced contest.

The last leg of this SGP is heavily based on minutes received in a contest where both teams will be traveling to play on Saturday. Brandon Clarke was on the floor for only 14 minutes on Wednesday and scored two points.

What's to like about this selection? In those 14 minutes, Clarke attempted five shots - including two from beyond the arc. The Houston Rockets are an extremely athletic team, which could prove to be difficult for Edey to contend with, opening the door for more minutes for Clarke.

The Memphis forward owns a career shooting percentage of over 60% on 7.5 attempts per game. If allowed to play closer to 17-20 minutes, Clarke certainly has an opportunity to clear 6.5 points tonight.
