(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
- Leg 1: Nets Moneyline (+185)
- Leg 2: Michael Porter Jr. Under 22.5 Points + Rebounds (-106)
- Leg 3: Dennis Schroder Over 16.5 Points (-122)
Brooklyn is coming off their first win of the season against the Milwaukee Bucks and will be looking to stack another victory against a Denver team that needed five extra minutes of playing time to taste success of their own for the first time this season
The Nuggets were in dire need of a win, and it took an overtime session to get the job done. Overtime on the first night of a back-to-back, that includes traveling, screams problematic on every front.
We would understand the safety of those who prefer taking the 5.5 points in this contest. However, these teams share the same record, and only one of them is flying in from Toronto, with five starters who played 39 minutes or more the night before.
The Brooklyn Nets are more than likely destined to be one of the worst teams in the league this season. Having said that, this is absolutely a spot where they can steal a win against a team that is traveling immediately for the second night in a row, after playing 48 minutes, plus an additional five in overtime.
The reasoning for taking the Under on Points + Rebounds on Michael Porter Jr. is predominately based on the same logic as the Brooklyn Nets moneyline selection; the schedule for the Nuggets entering this contest is not ideal by any means. Asking a player to be on the floor for 39 minutes, and then fly from Toronto to Brooklyn to play at 7:30 p.m. (EST) is a lot.
Porter Jr. has only exceeded 22.5 Points + Rebounds in 1-of-3 games, and over that span is shooting an abysmal 35.7% from the field. Normally this would be a fantastic bounce-back opportunity against a gracious Brooklyn defense. Yet, with the intense travel schedule and quick turn-around after logging big minutes, it seems highly unlikely the Denver forward will clear the suggested threshold.
Cam Thomas has been the leading option for points for the Nets in the 2024-25 campaign, however, Dennis Schroder has strongly contributed in his own right with an average of 20.7 per contest. The Brooklyn guard will attempt his third game in a row of scoring 20+ points tonight, and the opponent looks in prime position to oblige.
To start the season, Schroder is shooting 46.5% from the field on 43 attempts- a strong percentage for a ball-dominant guard who takes over 14 shots each game. What's even more impressive is the shooting from beyond the arc, where Schroder has made two or more three-pointers in every contest, knocking down 10 in total on 55% shooting.
Starting point guards are averaging 22.3 points against Denver, and that is without all the surrounding factors heading into this contest. Due to the volume, usage, and high-percentage shooting from three-point distance, this appears to be a solid option to close out this SGP.
