New York Knicks (-198) at Orlando Magic (+164) | O/U 223.5 (-110/-110)

In last season’s NBA Cup, the under cashed in both semifinals and the title game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Oklahoma City Thunder. Playing in an unfamiliar arena seemed to impact the teams’ shooting performance, so keep that in mind as we go into these games. In the 2023 NBA Cup, the under was also 3-0 in the semi-finals and finals. That’s six games in Vegas and six under results.

The Knicks (17-7) and Magic (15-10) meet in the first game, and New York is on fire against the number lately. New York heads into this game on a roll, winning four in a row, and eight of the past nine games, while the Knicks are 8-1 against the spread (ATS) in that span, too. That includes a 106-100 win at Madison Square Garden against the Magic on Sunday as the under (229.5) cashed.

The Knicks shot 43% (39-of-91) from the field and 31% (11-of-35) from behind the arc, while pulling down 52 rebounds with just 11 turnovers. Jalen Brunson led the way with 30 points and nine assists, while Josh Hart posted the team’s only double-double with 17 points and 12 boards to go along with a block and three triples. OG Anunoby finished with 21 points, seven boards, three steals and five three-pointers.

For the Magic, in that 106-100 loss, they were just 38% (36-of-94) from the field and 29% (12-of-42) from downtown. Orlando also left plenty of points on the floor, too, going just 16-of-24 (67%) from the charity stripe. Jalen Suggs led the way with 17 points. Anthony Black ended up with 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for the only double-double.

The Magic have won twice in the past four games, while going 1-4 ATS in the past five games. The under is also a perfect 4-for-4 in the past four games. We’ll lay the points with the Knicks, while going low on the total. It also helps the Knicks that Franz Wagner (high-ankle sprain) is out for the Magic.

As far as a player prop, Josh Hart is a fabulous value play to go over 12.5 points. He has averaged 19 points per game (PPG) in the past two games, including the 17 points against the Knicks in the most recent meeting on Sunday, and he has scored 15+ points in seven of the past eight outings. Play this prop alone and go rather aggressively, but also include it in your same-game parlay.

San Antonio Spurs (+340) at Oklahoma City Thunder (-440) | O/U 225.5 (-110/-110)

The Spurs (17-7) and Thunder (24-1) meet in the second semi-final matchup. Oklahoma City has last season’s experience to tap into, and that shouldn’t be disregarded. They pounded Houston 111-96 in the first game as a 5-point favorite as the under (214) cashed, before bowing out against the Milwaukee Bucks in the title game. Still, the two games of experience playing at T-Mobile Arena last season, something neither team has experience doing, should aid Oklahoma City greatly.

The good news for the Spurs is that Victor Wembanyama (calf) is probable for Saturday’s game. That could be a big boost for San Antonio. The Thunder are 8-2 straight up (SU) and 7-3 ATS in the past 10 meetings in this series, with the under going 3-1 in the past four meetings and 5-3 in the past eight encounters.

San Antonio has won its past two games, while posting four wins in the past five outings and nine victories in the previous 12 contests. The Spurs are also 8-4 ATS in the past 12 games, too. The over has hit in three in a row and six of the past seven outings.

The Thunder have won 16 in a row since their only loss of the season in Portland on November 5th. In that span, the Thunder are 10-6 ATS, with four consecutive covers. The over has hit in five of the past six games, too.

While the NBA Cup has seen six under results in six games in Las Vegas across the past two seasons, and we like the total to go low in the New York-Orlando game (above), go over on the total here, and let’s take the Spurs to keep it close, assuming Wembanyama makes his long-awaited return.

Chet Holmgren is a good bet to get to at least eight rebounds. All he needs to do is hit his average of eight rebounds per game. With Wembanyama back for the Spurs, that’s an added obstacle, but Holmgren has racked up at least eight boards in eight consecutive outings.
