Denver Nuggets at Boston Celtics

The Celtics are one of the hottest teams in the league, and they are climbing up the Eastern Conference standings. Since getting to .500 (7-7) on the season, the Celtics have a league-leading .773 win percentage (17-5), and have soared into the No. 2 seed of the Eastern Conference. Their turnaround has a lot to do with the chemistry this lineup is building, but also with the offensive style of shooting threes in volume, as they lead the league with 15.9 made threes per game. With Jayson Tatum out for the year, Jaylen Brown has become the leader and ranks sixth with 29.6 points per game. He recently dropped 50 points.

While Boston is prospering, Denver is tanking. The Nuggets have dropped five of their last seven games, as the injuries are impacting the team. The good news is that Christian Braun and Aaron Gordon returned to the lineup in the last game against Brooklyn; the bad news is that they are playing without Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets’ offense has noticeably taken a nosedive without the former MVP, going from the top-scoring offense when he was on the court to 20th since his injury. It's always difficult to replace a star, but it's tougher when he's averaging a triple-double and is the focal point of the team's offense.

It doesn't help when Denver is 25th in adjusted defensive rating (117.5) and doesn't have the offensive support.

Chicago Bulls vs. Detroit Pistons

The Chicago Bulls’ inconsistency has hindered the team all season. They recently lost four of their last six games, but had won the previous five before that. Now they’re playing without Josh Giddey, who is either tied or solely leads the team with 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and nine assists per game. They struggle on defense, and their objective is to play fast and use their pace to wear down the opposition; they are third at 13.6 seconds per offensive possession.

The Pistons should be able to counter the Bulls’ fast-paced play, as they allow the second-lowest offensive possessions per second (14.1). This is one of the league’s better defensive teams, as they are second in adjusted defensive rating (111.5). There is some concern in front court without Jalen Duren, but the Pistons have won the last two games without him, and they are +28 in points in the paint and +15 in rebounds in those two games.

This season, the home team has won every game. With the Bulls missing their offensive leader, the Pistons could roll to a win in the Motor City.
