New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks Odds & Game Pick (2020)

Week 2 of the 2020 NFL season is officially upon us, with another full slate of NFL games for bettors to get down on. With legalized sports betting sweeping across the country, there are more options than ever for bettors to choose from and the NFL is king, across the board.

While it will take some getting used to for any sporting event, prime time football particularly isn’t the same without large crowds, as we’ll see once again in this Sunday night’s matchup.

Crowds aside, the Week 1 contests were relatively sharp given the lack of preseason, and I expect an even sharper product this week.

Let’s take a closer look at this week’s prime time Sunday game.

Overview

The Tom Brady era is officially over in New England, but so far, that’s just fine for New England fans. In Cam Newton’s debut performance for the Patriots, the dual-threat former MVP threw for 155 yards and no interceptions, while rushing for 75 and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Belichick did what he usually does against one of his favorite foes in Ryan Fitzpatrick; dominate him. Forcing three turnovers on the day including two interceptions of Fitzpatrick, the Patriot’s stingy defense appears to be just fine despite a host of COVID related opt-outs.

For the Seahawks, things started quick last week and didn’t let up, jumping out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter and never looking back before ultimately coming out with the 38-25 victory. Russell Wilson’s 322 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions earned him NFC Player of the Week honors in the first week of what’s sure to be an unforgettable 2020 NFL season.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Seahawks secondary allowed 450 yards through the air to Matty Ice, and could definitely be cause for concern in a pass-heavy NFC West moving forward.

Trends

  • The under is 6-1 in New England’s last seven games after allowing less than 90 rushing yards in their previous game
  • The Seahawks are 1-5 ATS in their last six Week 2 games
  • The over is 5-0 in their last five head to head matchups

Prop Bet

1st Half Total Field Goals – Home Team Over 1 (+118)
While I do expect the Seahawks to put points on the board in this one, I’m not overreacting to them putting up 35 on a suspect Falcon’s defense last week. I think New England gets third-down stops in their own territory early, creating multiple chances for this prop to cash, or at worst, push.

Bottom Line

Whether or not Cam can stay healthy given his rugged style of play, is the only thing that concerns me with this Patriots team being more than fine with him at the helm. After Week 1’s showing, it’s easy to see Belichick and McDaniels have built around him, and as long as he’s healthy, I’ll be taking any points bookmakers are willing to offer.

While the score of last week’s Seahawks game was certainly inflated, I do think this offense with Wilson at the helm can be as good as advertised. Don’t be surprised if this one turns into another shoot out at CenturyLink.

Pick: Patriots +4 & Over 45
