New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Odds & Game Pick

This will be the second meeting between these two NFC South foes this season. In the first, Teddy Bridgewater led the New Orleans Saints to a 31-24 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Superdome.

Drew Brees is back for the Saints, but they are coming off one of the biggest upsets of the season, losing to the Atlanta Falcons. On the other side, the Bucs are coming off a close win in the desert, barely beating the Arizona Cardinals.

These teams know everything about each other, which should make for an interesting Week 11 matchup.

Overview

New Orleans really struggled last week in the loss to the Falcons, scoring just nine points. Obviously, this is uncharacteristic of a Drew Brees-led offense. They come into this game relatively healthy on offense, having all of their skill position players ready to go. Brees and this passing offense are likely to have a great day in a very positive matchup. The veteran quarterback has averaged 343.3 passing yards in the three full games he has played. Defensively, the Saints have been very solid, giving up just 20.2 points per game. However, they look to be without top cornerback Marshon Lattimore, which could mean trouble, going up against a very good outside receiver in Mike Evans.

Despite coming off a win, it feels as though Jameis Winston is playing for his job after numerous poor decisions with the ball this season that are a microcosm for his career. Still, he is moving the football well, averaging 307.2 passing yards per game and is not the biggest worry Tampa has this week. Instead, that’s the pass defense. The secondary for Tampa has been atrocious, giving up 316.1 passing yards per game, 22 passing touchdowns and a nine-yard average depth per target. Their run defense has been solid, allowing only 3.5 yards per rush, which is third in the league. However, it does not matter much, since opposing quarterbacks can do as they will through the air.

Away Team Total Points: Over 27 (-118)
Week 10 was the first time ever that Drew Brees and Sean Payton together were held under 10 points. That means we’re about to see some fireworks down in Tampa Bay. Tampa is allowing 31 points per game, including 27 or more in all but one game.

Bottom Line

Tampa drew the short straw and has the tall task of facing the Saints after a terrible performance. This is similar to last season when they played the Saints at home after they lost 13-10 the week prior. The result? A 28-14 Saints victory. The secondary for Tampa is the worst in the league, and Drew Brees will pick it apart all game long with Michael Thomas, Ted Ginn, and the rest of his dangerous weapons.

Pick: New Orleans Saints -5.5
