New Orleans Saints vs Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Sports Betting Guide

At the beginning of the season, we thought we would be seeing a quarterback matchup of Drew Brees versus Nick Foles in this one. Instead, it will be Teddy Bridgewater versus Gardner Minshew in Jacksonville. While the leaders of these offenses are not what we expected, both units are running well and it should be a good matchup overall.

Overview

Teddy Bridgewater has led the Saints to three straight wins over the Seahawks, Cowboys, and Buccaneers. While he started as just a game manager, simply letting his playmakers do all the work, Teddy’s confidence has grown and it shows in his play. His average depth of target continues to increase, with an aDOT of 7.2 yards last week, which allowed Michael Thomas to get his first 100-yard game this season without Brees, Ted Ginn to catch a 33-yard touchdown, and Jared Cook even found the end zone. Defensively, Marshon Lattimore is playing like a true shut-down corner, but the rest of the secondary can be exposed, shown by Tampa Bay’s 24 points and two passing touchdowns last week. But it is the pass rush that won the game on the defensive side of the ball, totaling six sacks.

The Jaguars’ offense continues to get better each week, scoring 12, 20, 26, and 27 over the four weeks of Gardner Minshew as the starter. “Minshew Mania” has taken over the league, throwing seven touchdowns to no interceptions as the starter, averaging 251 passing yards and 29.5 rushing yards in the four games. While the offense is clicking, it’s the defense that has been struggling. In Week 4, they gave up 303 yards and three touchdowns to Joe Flacco. Last week, they were able to get pressure on Kyle Allen, but their inability to contain Christian McCaffrey (237 yards and three touchdowns) led to their demise. They face a similar dual-threat running back in Alvin Kamara this week.

Prop Bet

All odds taken from FanDuel Sportsbook.

First Half Spread: New Orleans Saints 0 (+100)
For this prop, you’re just picking the team that will have the lead at the half. Surprisingly enough, the Saints, with Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback, have jumped out to leads. The Saints have had halftime leads in each of his starts, with an average lead of 8.7 points. The Jaguars have trailed at the half in three of the four games under Gardner Minshew, with him normally heating up in the second half.

Bottom Line

Gardner Minshew has been pressured more often the past two weeks, causing him to complete less than 60 percent of passes in both games. The Saints’ defense has been getting pressure and playing good overall defense the past two weeks against Jameis Winston and Dak Prescott. With Marshon Lattimore likely assigned to shut down D.J. Chark for Jacksonville, I do not think they have enough other offensive weapons to compete with the stacked Saints’ offense.

Pick: New Orleans Saints +1
