New York Giants vs. Cincinnati Bengals Odds and Game Pick (2020)

Week 12 features an interesting matchup at Paul Brown Stadium between the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals that doesn’t look overly exciting on paper. Currently, the Giants are clear odds favorites to win on the road, with the Bengals playing without two of their best offensive players.

Overview

The Giants are coming off their bye week and have a new offensive line coach, following some drama that went on there. Things seemed to be clicking for New York prior to the bye, stringing together two wins in a row. It doesn’t seem coincidental that these two wins coincided with Daniel Jones not turning the ball over. In fact, these are the only two games all season where he did not have a turnover. Still, he fumbled the ball twice.

New York’s defense has also been quietly solid, ranking about average in most categories. However, it’s their run defense that has led the charge, allowing just 4.0 yards per carry, which is tied for the eighth-best in the NFL.

Cincinnati has been pretty awful all season long. Defensively, injuries have kept key players off the field. Offensively, the question was never if Joe Burrow would get hurt, but when. Zac Taylor did nothing from a play design standpoint to protect his quarterback, and now he is out for the year. Joe Mixon was finally put on IR, and he will also miss. Brandon Allen will start at quarterback, which should give nobody confidence. He played three games and started two for the Broncos. In these games, he completed 46.4 percent of his passes, throwing three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Trends

  • The Giants are 5-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last five road games.
  • The Giants are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games.
  • The total has hit the over in five of Cincinnati’s last six home games.

First Quarter Spread: Giants -0.5 (-104)
The Giants had been playing well and they should be prepared to put up points early on, coming off their bye week. Meanwhile, the Bengals’ new quarterback could mean a slow start. Given the loss of Mixon and the solid run defense of the Giants, Cincinnati will likely not be able to run the ball well early to take the pressure off of Allen. It may only take three to cover this spread.

Bottom Line

The Giants were playing better before their break, and the Bengals are trending in the opposite direction. Burrow was the only thing making them look respectable. Cincinnati allows 5.0 yards per carry, which is the second-most in the league. The Giants should be able to establish the run, then mix in downfield shots to put up points and cover the spread.

Pick: Giants -6 at FanDuel Sportsbook
