NFL: AFC East Sports Betting Guide (2019)

This is the third of an eight-part series breaking down each NFL division and its future market.

In a league known for its parity, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a division in recent memory with less than the AFC East. Winners of the division in 14 out of the last 15 seasons, the Patriots once again come in as heavy favorites. With three of the most promising young quarterbacks at their respective helms in the rest of the division, however, let’s dive in and see where we can find an edge. Best Bet?

New York Jets – OVER 7 Wins (165)
The long torturous seasons for Jets’ fans of this franchise essentially tanking appear to be on their way out. After starting out last season 1-9 on their way to finishing with one of the worst records in the NFL, Todd Bowles was always going to be the scapegoat and this coaching staff has now seen a complete turnover I believe for the better. Adam Gase now comes to town, just two seasons off of taking the Dolphins to the playoffs and brings with him one of the better defensive minds in the game in defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

In addition to bringing in Williams, the Jets loaded up their arsenal with some outstanding defensive personnel through the draft and free agency. With the 3rd pick in the draft, they took Quinnen Williams out of Alabama who should contribute day one. They also brought in another Alabama product through free agency in CJ Mosley whose made the Pro Bowl in four out of his first five seasons in the league and had developed into an absolute stud in Baltimore.

On the other side of the ball, all reports out of Jets camp indicate quarterback Sam Darnold has taken another huge step and has returned this season much stronger. They’ve added some pieces to protect him as well with All-Pro guard Kelechi Osemele and marquee running back Le’Veon Bell who in addition to catching the ball downfield can pick up blitzes better than any back in the league.

Look I get it, this is a lot of juice to be laying on a team more synonymous with the butt-fumble in the last decade than winning. Mix all of the pieces this teamed added however with a favorable schedule that doesn’t even have them leaving the Eastern Standard Timezone, and I like this team to go well over seven wins and like OVER 7.5 Wins (-110) just as much.
