Week 8’s Best NFL Anytime TD Scorers
Zay Flowers (WR – BAL) | +143 at Caesars Sportsbook
One of Sunday's marquee matchups is the clash between the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to play, which means it's wheels up for wide receiver Zay Flowers.
Truth be told, Flowers hasn't needed Jackson to remain productive this season. The fourth-year wideout caught 22 passes for 256 yards in Tyler Huntley's three starts at quarterback for Baltimore.
But Flowers has much more big-play and touchdown upside with Jackson under center. Jackson has played every snap in 12 games since last season began. Flowers has recorded at least 118 receiving yards in five of those games. He has also scored in four of those five.
Buffalo's defense ranks 28th in total defense-adjusted value over average (DVOA) against the pass, including 31st versus No. 1 WRs. All their regular cornerbacks have struggled in coverage.
Pro Football Focus (PFF) credits 111 cornerbacks with playing at least 20% of their team's coverage snaps. The highest coverage grade among the Bills foursome belongs to Christian Benford, who ranks 80th. Dee Alford is the team's primary slot cornerback. He ranks 103rd and has allowed 15.6 yards per reception. That number is boosted by Alford's 23.8% missed-tackle rate, the 10th-highest mark among the 111 cornerbacks mentioned. Flowers plays out of the slot on more than half of his offensive snaps.
No matter who guards Flowers on a given play, that player will be on the wrong side of the matchup. Flowers has earned PFF's fifth-highest wide receiver grade this season. That includes the second-highest overall grade against zone and the third-highest while playing in the slot. This game features an implied total well over 50, which means points should come in bunches. I don’t believe Buffalo has the manpower to keep Flowers in check. I expect Flowers to score at least one touchdown on Sunday.
Bhayshul Tuten (RB – JAX) | -109 at BetRivers/Bally's
AFC South foes Indianapolis and Jacksonville meet, with both teams heading in opposite directions. Jacksonville leads the division and is coming off a bye week. Indianapolis traded two of its best players away and is staring at a rebuild before we even hit November.
The Jaguars are one of two double-digit favorites this week, with an implied team total approaching 30. Several Jaguars will have chances to score on Sunday. But I believe running back Bhayshul Tuten has the best combination of opportunity and price among Jacksonville's skill players.
Tuten is tied for the team lead with four scores in six games this season. That is an excellent rate, considering he’s been splitting work down by the goal line with Chris Rodriguez Jr. Each player has touched the ball seven times inside the opponents' 10-yard line this season. But while Tuten has converted three of those into touchdowns, Rodriguez has scored on only one.
Coming off a bye, Tuten could get more goal-line carries. That makes him a prime target against a Colts run defense ranked in the bottom five by most metrics. Indianapolis will also be without defensive tackle DeForest Buckner after trading him to San Francisco on Tuesday.
Even if the backs continue to split the work, Tuten is a much more versatile rusher who can take advantage of Indianapolis in the passing game. Tuten is tied for second on the team behind Parker Washington with two receiving touchdowns. Washington could have his hands full with Sauce Gardner, while Jakobi Meyers did not practice on Friday and is questionable for Sunday's contest.
Tight end Brenton Strange is worth a look, but Trevor Lawrence hasn’t targeted him inside the 5-yard line this season. Most roads seem to lead back to Tuten, who has earned at least 15 touches in every game this year. Considering the cost and the matchup, Bhayshul Tuten is one of my favorite touchdown picks this week.
Tee Higgins (WR – CIN) | +104 at BetRivers/Bally's
Indianapolis isn’t the only AFC South team already thinking long-term. The Tennessee Titans traded away defensive stalwart Jeffery Simmons this week. Simmons led the team in sacks and tackles for a loss and led all Titans defensive linemen in total tackles. His absence will hurt a defensive unit that already ranked last in the NFL in defensive DVOA, even with the eight-year veteran. Several Cincinnati Bengals should benefit from Simmons being out. I think Tee Higgins could gain the most from an anytime touchdown perspective.
Simmons currently leads all defensive tackles in pass rush win rate. That is an area of weakness for Cincinnati. The Bengals rank 28th collectively in pass-block win rate, while placing third in run-block win rate. Without Simmons to account for on the interior, Cincinnati's offensive line should give Joe Burrow more time to throw the football. More time to throw should mean more chances to complete passes downfield. That suits Higgins better than any other Bengals pass-catcher, including Ja'Marr Chase. Higgins has an average depth of target (aDOT) of 14.2 this season. Chase's aDOT sits at just 9.27 yards.
Since last season began, Higgins and Chase have each scored 13 times. Chase Brown has scored 12 times and has played one more game than Chase and two more than Higgins. Yet, Higgins is the only one of the three with plus-money odds. Given that and the matchup, Higgins is my preferred choice.
Michael Wilson (WR – ARI) | +190 at Fanatics Sportsbook | *0.7 Units
My next NFL anytime touchdown scorer play for Week 8 is Michael Wilson of the Arizona Cardinals. This is one of those picks where I see value based on opportunities relative to year-to-date results.
Wilson has only scored once in seven games. But the targets are there, especially in the red zone. Positive regression in a game where Arizona will likely throw a lot could help Wilson find paydirt in a favorable matchup. Dallas enters this game ranked 31st in the NFL in expected points added (EPA) and 30th in DVOA in terms of pass defense. They have generated just 10 sacks while allowing 12 touchdown passes this season.
A cursory glance at Wilson's numbers may make it look like he’s fallen off from last season's breakout. But Wilson is earning elite targets in the red zone and near the goal line. Jacoby Brissett has targeted Wilson seven times inside the 5-yard line in 2026. No other NFL wide receiver has that many targets inside the 10-yard line, much less the 5-yard line.
Only two players in the league have as many as four targets inside the 5-yard line: Amon-Ra St. Brown (five) and Wilson's teammate, tight end Trey McBride (four). Those two players have parlayed those nine targets into five scores. Wilson has scored only once on his seven targets.
While McBride is never a bad bet, seven of the 12 receiving scores the Cowboys have given up this year have come from opposing wide receivers. That includes seven over the past six weeks. Wilson is also priced much more favorably than McBride is. Dallas' coverage units against tight ends rank around the middle of the pack.
Wilson's success may hinge on how often he faces DaRon Bland versus Joey Porter Jr. I don't expect the Cowboys to use Porter to shadow Wilson, so I am comfortable betting on the Cardinals wideout. This game has the highest implied total on Sunday's board, and Arizona is a seven-point underdog. I expect the Cardinals to pass a lot, and for Wilson to benefit with a touchdown.
Longshot Anytime Touchdown Bet: Gavin Bartholomew (MIN – TE) | +1400, BetRivers/Bally's | *0.15 Units
The Detroit Lions have played six games this season. Here is a list of tight ends who have scored against Detroit and at least one other NFL team:
- Juwan Johnson
- Noah Fant
- Kenyon Sadiq
- Trey McBride
- Tucker Kraft
That feels like a long list for just six games. But wait, there's more. Here is a list of tight ends who have scored against Detroit and no other NFL team this year:
- Dalton Kincaid
- Dawson Knox
- Jeremy Ruckert
- Teagan Quitoriano (twice)
The Lions have allowed nine different tight ends to score in six games. They have also allowed five touchdowns to tight ends who haven’t scored any other touchdowns yet this season. So while I certainly won't talk anyone out of betting on T.J. Hockenson, I am taking a shot on backup tight end Gavin Bartholomew.
Bartholomew has filled in as Minnesota's backup tight end since Josh Oliver’s season-ending injury. He has caught at least one pass in three straight games for the Vikings. That includes five catches in Week 5 when Hockenson was out with a concussion. That level of involvement will not be there on Sunday, but it only takes one play for us to cash this bet.
I played this at +1400 at BetRivers/Bally's, but I have seen it as low as +900 on Fanatics Sportsbook and +950 at FanDuel Sportsbook and Caesars Sportsbook. At that price, I would prefer to play Hockenson, whose Week 8 odds range from +250 to +270 on those sportsbooks. But at +1400, I think it is worth speculating on Bartholomew given what we have seen from Detroit's defense against opposing tight ends.
