NFL Betting: Week 4 Preseason Picks (2019)

The anticipation of the 2019 NFL regular season kickoff continues to build heading into the final week of preseason action with all 32 teams set for one more dress rehearsal.

Since there are no mandatory roster cuts prior to the final exhibition contests, there will be a number of fringe players competing for roster spots this week. It’s a tough spot to handicap because most starters (and players of any significance) will be rested. Here’s who we like:

Baltimore Ravens @ Washington Redskins

Thursday August 29th, 2019 – 7:30 PM ET
Odds: Ravens -5.5 at PointsBet

How many times can we go back to the wishing well? So far, it’s worked, so we’ll do it again.

It’s time for the annual Battle of the Beltway, which offers intrigue for another reason this year with the Ravens aiming for perfection. Baltimore has traditionally been one of the best preseason performers under head coach John Harbaugh. That tradition has continued this preseason with the Ravens opening their exhibition slate with three straight victories. Baltimore is now 16-0 in its preseason games dating back to 2016. There is a good chance they will extend that winning streak against the Redskins on Thursday night.

Washington got a win last week against the Atlanta Falcons, who care very little about these games, but lost their first two preseason games by a score of 53-23.

Pick: Baltimore

New York Giants @ New England Patriots

Thursday August 29th, 2019 – 7:30 PM ET
Odds: Patriots -1.5 at PointsBet

Despite an apparent lack of depth, the Giants have thrived this preseason with a 3-0 record. However, a big part of their success has been the fact that both Eli Manning and rookie quarterback Daniel Jones have performed at a high level this preseason. Manning isn’t likely to play against New England while Jones will face his toughest test in limited snaps against a defensive genius in Bill Belichick. The Patriots are 6-1 in exhibition action over the last two seasons. New England has allowed an average of 7.6 points per game through its first three wins of this preseason.

The Giants are 8-7 in 15 preseason games under Pat Shurmur but are 0-3 in the fourth week of preseason action. The Pats have a couple of competent backup quarterbacks that should lead the way to a win here.

Pick: New England

Arizona Cardinals @ Denver Broncos

Thursday August 29th, 2019 – 9:00 PM ET
Odds: Broncos -2 at PointsBet

The Cardinals are a team in transition with first-overall pick rookie quarterback Kyler Murray set to take the reins this season. Murray has had mixed results this preseason. However, he isn’t likely to play much – if at all – in their fourth exhibition contest. That will leave Brett Hundley and Charles Kanoff to play the bulk of the snaps against a Denver defense that boasts some impressive depth. The Broncos are coming off a 10-6 loss to the defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams to fall to 1-3 in the exhibition season. Their offense has been non-existent as they mustered 14 against the hapless Falcons, 14 against the Seahawks, 15 against the 49ers, and just six points against the Rams. Arizona has averaged just 17.3 points per game in the preseason, so I’m expecting a low-scoring affair here. Go with the under.

Pick: Under 33
