Q: Who’s your favorite early AFC Champion value bet?

Indianapolis Colts (+1800)
The Colts were mediocre quarterback play away from making the playoffs last season, and they are one of the favorites to sign Philip Rivers. If that happens, their odds would likely jump to +1500, if not +1200, where the Titans are. They have all the tools to make the playoffs next season and getting them with the ninth-best odds is a steal. Keep in mind, the Colts were 5-2 before Jacoby Brissett’s injury last year (2-7 the rest of way).

The Colts have one of the better offensive lines in the AFC and a running back in Marlon Mack who finished in the top 10 in rushing yards per game last year. On top of that, they always draft well, and it’s possible the final chapter of Philip Rivers’ career is spent in Indy.

Pittsburgh Steelers (+1100)
After going through each team’s strengths and weaknesses, the Steelers stood out as a team that doesn’t need much. The biggest issue last year was the loss of Ben Roethlisberger, which obviously derailed their success. Even with Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges under center, they were on the brink of the playoffs. I also debated the Browns +1400 and Colts +1800.

Tennessee Titans (+1200)
Tennessee might be hampered over the long haul if they sign Derrick Henry to a long-term deal, but not next season. Most people expect both he and Ryan Tannehill to ultimately be back with the Titans. Assuming that happens, there’s no doubt their odds will jump past the Steelers at +1100, making them a great value currently. If Henry and Tannehill do return, the Titans will assume their perch as one of the most balanced teams in the NFL. Henry can run the ball, Tannehill has become incredibly efficient, and the Titan defense consistently keeps the team in ball games. There’s no reason to believe the AFC runners-up from 2019 can’t make it even further in 2020.

Houston Texans (+1500)
Let us not forget, at one point the Texans were leading the eventual Super Bowl champions 24-0 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Houston finds itself once again in an extremely winnable division. Jacksonville might be one of the worst teams in the league, while the Colts are torn if Jacoby Brissett is their quarterback of the future. Assuming Ryan Tannehill does not build on his career year last year, the Texans may not only win this division going away, but could challenge the Ravens and Chiefs for a top two-seed. If that is the case, +1500 for them to win the conference is great value.
