NFL Futures: Best Super Bowl LIV Value Bets (2020)

With Super Bowl LIII in the books and a new champion crowned, weekly ATS and prop bets are done for another season. However, it’s never too early to look ahead at futures bets for the 2020 Super Bowl. Bovada has released their early odds per team to win Super Bowl LIV. Based on the early odds, our writers and experts provide their picks and reasoning for the best value bets to win Super Bowl LIV.

Atlanta Falcons (+3000)
Both the Vikings and Eagles stand out as excellent bets too, but the Falcons at +3000 take the cake. Matt Ryan was spectacular this season but the defense was a trainwreck. The reason, of course, was that they had countless key injuries. Once those players get healthy, we could be looking at a top 5 offense coupled with a top 10 defense and that is a Super Bowl winning combination. The +3000 line implies their odds of winning it all are just 3.23%. I’d put them in my personal top five teams heading into next year.

I only doubt this pick because I’m not sure what Dirk Koetter will do as the new offensive coordinator, but otherwise, these are great odds. The Falcons battled defensive injuries all last season and should be revamped on that front with the hope that Dan Quinn can return the defense to relevance. The offensive talent is still there and Matt Ryan is quietly coming off a successful campaign, while the defense has plenty of playmakers. Considering the Falcons don’t have to go through the mastermind that is Bill Belichick, I like the odds.

Indianapolis Colts (+1100)
Andrew Luck returned from injury to post 4,593 yards, 39 TDs, and a career-high 67.3% completion rate. Darius Leonard led a defense that smashed expectations by finishing top-12 in takeaways and points and yards allowed. Without question, the Colts hit it out of the park by hiring Frank Reich. Now, they enter the offseason with the most cap space league-wide — plus an extra 2nd-rounder acquired from the Jets.

The Colts, Bears, Vikings, Ravens, and Texans are all on my list of potential 2020 Super Bowl champions. The Colts stand out to me because their leader, Andrew Luck, came back strong from injury, and their defense took a huge step up from the prior year. Between Frank Reich’s coaching staff, and the elite level talent on all sides of the ball, they’re super bowl bound next season. Luck came back from his injury really strong with 4593 yards passing, and 39 touchdowns. His confidence seemed to return mid-season, and now he has the offseason with the team, coaches, and system. He’s a jolly fella, but he’s a serious competitor. If he matures one step further, he’ll be unstoppable. By next season, the Colts defense will be top 5. Not all the stats may have shown how well they did, and the potential they have, but there were so many instances the lineman, and linebackers were nanoseconds away from huge game-changing plays. I could taste it. We’ll see it next season. (…and what Kevin English said)

Pittsburgh Steelers (+1600)
My mathematically-derived, per-play efficiency based Power Ratings had the Steelers as the 4th best team in the NFL at the end of the regular season – ahead of both Super Bowl teams. I’m not Tomlin’s biggest fan, in part for his in-game decisions, as well as this pattern of having his teams lose to vastly inferior teams every single year. At some point, the talent will overcome his shortcomings, and combine with his strength of being a great ‘spot’ motivator, and the Steelers will put it all together for a late season run and Super Bowl victory.

Houston Texans (+4000)
With the offensive line being so important to success in the NFL…picking the Texans seems misguided. Once they solve that though they have everything going for them. A healthy Watson, Fuller, Hopkins, and Coutee makes this offense dominant. In games that Will Fuller plays, Watson is averaging 65 more passing yards and 1.5 more passing TD’s. Coutee showed his value from the slot in his 3 healthy starts as a rookie…gaining 77 yards or a TD in all three…and gaining 11 receptions for 100+ yards twice on the season. Combine the offense with the terrifying pass rush of Watt and Clowney (assuming they extend his contract) and you get a team that could get hot during a playoff run. They just need to fix the offensive line.

Cleveland Browns (+3000)
When looking over team needs for the NFL Draft and free agency, the Browns don’t have many holes on their roster. They also have more salary cap space than any other team in the league, and it’s not even close. Having Baker Mayfield locked-up for years to come, they need to attack their window of opportunity right now. The AFC North has always been the Steelers and Ravens, but now that the Steelers have non-stop drama and the Ravens are changing gears to Lamar Jackson (and may lose key defenders in free agency), the Browns window starts right now. If they nail the draft and free agency, they’ll be Super Bowl contenders in 2019.

New England Patriots (+650)
It almost feels like cheating to choose the Patriots at this point in the offseason. The Pats are the only team, pre free agency and the draft, that is assured to get better next year. With four picks in the first two days of a loaded NFL Draft, the Patriots will be able to retool on the fly and add four potential impact players. It almost seems unfair to think of the amount of talent they will add this offseason, but that is how it is sometimes. The rich get richer.
