Kate City Chiefs at Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Preview
The Chiefs silenced the noise with a resounding 37-20 victory over the Ravens in Week 4. The return of wide receiver Xavier Worthy (shoulder injury) helped quarterback Patrick Mahomes find a groove and post four passing touchdowns for the first time in nearly two years. Meanwhile, the Jaguars held on late for a 26-21 win versus the 49ers to earn their first 3-1 start since 2018. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. totaled 125 yards on 20 touches, and linebacker Devin Lloyd collected two interceptions.
Kansas City is nowhere near a well-oiled machine yet, but it knows how to take care of the football and play sound defense. Head coach Andy Reid’s squad has tallied just one turnover and has allowed the seventh-fewest points per game (19.0). Improvement in the rushing attack will be necessary for the Chiefs to regain their greatness from the past few campaigns. Mahomes leads the team with 130 rushing yards. The backfield duo of Isaiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt is logging a mundane 3.6 yards per carry.
On the other side, the Jaguars are a confident bunch right now. Their offense manages the clock well as they average the fourth-most rushing yards per contest (144.0) and sixth-most yards per rush attempt (5.0). Jacksonville’s defense has surprised with a league-high 13 takeaways. A consistent ground scheme and opportunistic defense give the Jags a shot to beat anyone. However, it’s hard to overlook that they have lost eight straight meetings with the Chiefs. That streak dates all the way back to 2010.
There is upset potential here in a matchup that could come down to the wire. I’m not going against Mahomes, though. The two-time MVP has averaged 304.4 passing yards and registered 11 touchdowns in five career battles with the Jaguars (including playoffs). Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence has been sacked 11 times in three career outings facing the Chiefs. Keep in mind that Kansas City is also 23-7 in its previous 30 away games. That is no easy feat, considering the amount of talent there is in the NFL.
Week 5 Monday Night Football Parlay
Mahomes isn’t the only Chief who has tormented the Jaguars lately. Tight end Travis Kelce has recorded 205 yards and scored four touchdowns on 24 catches in his last three contests versus Jacksonville. The 10-time Pro Bowler has garnered a red-zone target in three of Kansas City’s first four games and is averaging a career-high 7.5 yards after contact per reception. There’s no better way to celebrate Taylor Swift’s newest album than dancing in the end zone. Trust the Mahomes-Kelce connection to stay true.
