Tampa Buccaneers at Houston Texans
The Buccaneers squeaked out a win over the Falcons in Week 1, but they were limited to 260 total yards on offense. It pales in comparison to their 393.2 yards per contest average in 2024. Running back Bucky Irving gathered little steam as he tallied 37 yards on 14 carries. Keep in mind that Houston finished as a top-10 unit in rushing yards allowed last year and surrendered only 2.9 yards per rush attempt in Week 1. A defensive line bolstered by Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter excels at closing lanes.
A Week 1 loss to the Rams highlighted some offensive concerns for the Texans as well. However, it was anticipated that their offseason improvements to the offensive line would need time to gel. Returning home gives Houston a chance to show why it remains the betting favorite to win the AFC South. After all, quarterback C.J. Stroud has averaged 281.4 passing yards across 16 career home starts compared to 207.1 passing yards through 17 road starts. Staying protected is the key to finding open targets.
The Texans have earned a victory in each of their last five games versus the Buccaneers. I am going to back that streak as Houston’s defense shines at frustrating opposing offenses. Dalton Schultz is an enticing anytime touchdown scorer option. The veteran tight end led the team in targets last week (5) and should see even more playing time with Cade Stover injured. It’s worth mentioning that Schultz logged 130 yards and one touchdown on 10 catches in the most recent meeting between Houston and Tampa.
Bet: Dalton Schultz Anytime Touchdown Scorer/Texans to Win (+368)
Las Angeles Chargers at Las Vegas Raiders
Los Angeles’ Justin Herbert went 25-of-34 for 318 yards and three touchdowns to defeat the Chiefs in Brazil in Week 1. It was a performance that proved the Chargers can emerge victorious even when the running game is faltering. Meanwhile, Geno Smith guided the Raiders to a Week 1 win over the Patriots with 362 passing yards. That total stands out as New England did not concede more than 327 passing yards in a game during the 2024 campaign. Las Vegas head coach Pete Carroll isn’t afraid to air it out.
Two offenses chock full of talented weapons should make for an exciting matchup inside Allegiant Stadium. A late takeaway could be the deciding factor, which provides an edge for the visiting squad. The Chargers have forced an interception in five of their past six games against the Raiders and were tied for the third-best turnover differential in 2024 (+12). Las Vegas posted the second-worst turnover differential last season (-16), and those struggles leaked into Week 1 with an early interception from Smith.
I’ll trust a balanced Chargers roster to get the job done on the road. Wide receiver Quentin Johnston dazzled with two touchdowns in Brazil as Los Angeles utilized three-wide receiver sets at an astounding 84% rate. Monday’s showdown serves as an opportunity to stay hot since the Raiders played zone coverage at the fourth-highest rate in Week 1. Johnston racked up more touchdowns facing zone coverage than any other wideout in 2024 (8). Expect the TCU product to prevail as Herbert’s red-zone threat.
Bet: Quentin Johnston Anytime Touchdown Scorer/Chargers to Win (+341)
