NFL Monday Night Football Best Bets & Predictions: Bengals vs. Jaguars (Week 13)

When the schedule makers put this Monday night matchup on the schedule there was a lot of intrigue. Unfortunately, with Joe Burrow out for the season, a lot of the luster of the game has faded. However, we still get to see a really solid Jaguar team compete with a Bengal team that isn’t going out without a fight. Here is a deeper look at the game and what angle I’m backing to play.

Cincinnati Bengals at Jacksonville Jaguars

After a close win over the Texans last week, this Jaguar team isn’t resting on their laurels as they try to secure another AFC South title. A severely banged up Cincinnati team comes into town and on paper it’s a perfect matchup for Jacksonville.

The offense for the Jaguars revolves around Trevor Lawrence and the pass game. He’s averaging nearly 250 yards per game. This Bengal defense may not provide much resistance as they currently allow 8.1 yards per attempt on the season. They’ve been gashed at about 250 yards per game and their pass defense ranks just 19th in DVOA.

The run defense for Cincinnati hasn’t been any better. They rank near dead last in DVOA, 29th, and 5.0 yards per attempt. Jacksonville has not really been able to get the run offense going, but this matchup will be conducive to them being able to move the ball both in the air and on the ground.

As far as the Bengal offense, Jake Browning had some success last week against Pittsburgh. He posted 227 yards with a TD and an INT. He may not be as bad as some of the backup quarterbacks in this league, but if the Bengals can’t get stops on defense, he doesn’t have the ability to drive this offense down the field and keep up with Jacksonville.

It’s gotten to the point where this is likely to end up a lost season during the reign of Joe Burrow in Cincinnati. The defense isn’t good enough to make up for such a consequential loss. Jacksonville is going to come out hot in a game they need to keep distance from a Houston team that is still hot on their backs for the AFC South title. I like the Jaguars to win and win comfortably.

Pick: Jaguars -10 (-110)
