(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
San Francisco 49ers vs. Indianapolis Colts
- Leg 1: Under 45.5 Points (-115)
- Leg 2: Jonathan Taylor 22+ Rush Attempts (-142)
- Leg 3: Christian McCaffrey 18+ Rushing Attempts (-130)
The perception of the Colts’ season has changed significantly over the last few weeks. This team was one of the best, as they held the top spot in the conference. Now, they are entering Week 16 with a four-game losing streak and are currently not in the playoffs. The season-ending Achilles injury to Daniel Jones has played a large part, as he was looking like a potential MVP candidate. Jonathan Taylor was on pace for a record-breaking season, but after averaging 113.9 rushing in his first 10 games, that has dropped to 76 in his last four.
With the Colts having 44-year-old Philip Rivers under center again, they may need to rely on Taylor to help move this offense. This is one of the more favorable opponents he's had in recent weeks, with the 49ers struggling to stop the run, ranking 24th in rush expected points added (EPA) with a mark of 0.002 since Week 10.
The 49ers can counter with their own top-tier running back. Taylor has been the workhorse for Indianapolis, ranking fourth with 310 touches, but no running back has touched the ball more than Christian McCaffrey with 345. After an injury-plagued 2024, McCaffrey is back to his dominant self, leading the running back position with 820 receiving yards and ranking third with 1,742 scrimmage yards. We could see McCaffrey get a high volume of carries because the Colts have recently averaged 29.3 rush attempts against over their last three games, which ranks 22nd.
There is no doubt the 49ers are better with Brock Purdy in the lineup. In the four games since he's returned, San Fransico has won by an average of 15.2 points. The Colts have taken a nosedive since returning from their bye, and Rivers no longer has the skill set to lead a team after five years off the field.
