Detroit Lions vs. Baltimore Ravens

This game could be an exciting way to end the week. These two have multiple top scoring options, and each team has put up 40 points in a game this year. The Ravens have done it twice.

The Ravens’ offense has looked great this season, specifically in terms of expected points added (EPA) per play, where they rank second (0.244). Some feel like Lamar Jackson was the deserving MVP last season, but he wasn't able to get that third award. He has been one of the top quarterbacks early in the year, leading the league in adjusted EPA (0.438) and ranking fourth in success rate (52.3%). Jackson and this offense have been getting big plays throughout the season as they lead in big-play rate (17.3), while Detroit is 28th in explosive plays allowed (13). They allowed a 37+ yard completion in both games, so it could happen again.

The question going into this game is whether we’re going to get the Week 1 Lions, who only scored 13 points on 246 total yards against the Packers, or the Week 2 Lions, who scored 52 points with 511 yards against the Bears. We are more accustomed to seeing the explosive offensive output from Detroit, which has scored at least 52 points in three of its last 13 games.

What makes this Lions team very good is the balance between the rush and pass. That has helped Jared Goff get off to an incredible start as he is tied for second with six touchdowns and is third in passing success rate (54.1%). The Ravens tried to address the problem in the secondary as they allowed the third-most passing yards last year, and so far, it still doesn't look good, as they are again allowing the third-most passing yards and completions. That will work well with Goff, whose 80.6% completion rate leads all quarterbacks.

We've seen both teams score 40 and allow 40. Each team can move the ball on the ground and in the air to keep the defense off balance. We should see a lot of scoring tonight.
