NFL Parlay Picks: Week 17 (2019)

The final week of the regular season is here. Traditionally, this is a tough one to handicap due to uncertainty over playing time for teams with nothing to play for. That doesn’t mean we’re going to shy away from the handicapping challenge it presents. Here’s a rundown of all 16 games and a pick for each. All odds are current as of this writing and courtesy of PointsBet

New York Jets at Buffalo Bills, 1 PM, CBS

The Bills are locked into the 5th seed in the AFC. Starters are expected to play for a bit, but the team isn’t entering the contest with a must-win mentality. It’s a different story for a Jets team which is looking to close on a high note after a challenging 2019 campaign. New York wraps up the season with a victory.

The Pick: New York Jets +1.5 (-105)

Cleveland Browns at Cincinnati Bengals, 1 PM, FOX

The disappointing and drama-filled Browns close out the season at a division rival. The Bengals have locked up the top pick in next year’s draft, but the team showed a good deal of fight in last week’s loss to the Dolphins. We expect more of the same in Week 17. Bengals cover and an outright upset is on the table.

The Pick: Cincinnati Bengals +2.5 (-105)

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions, 1 PM, FOX

This number has moved substantially since opening up at 10.5 points in favor of the Packers. While we get the enthusiasm for one of the league’s best facing one of the NFL’s worst, oddsmakers set the number where they did for a reason. Green Bay gets its double-digit win, but the Lions cover the rising number.

The Pick: Detroit Lions +13 (-105)

Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs, 1 PM, CBS

The Chargers have lost five of six as they head to Kansas City to face a Chiefs team which has won five in a row with three of the victories coming by double digits. The maddening Chargers could pick this week to show up and make a game of it, but the Chiefs still win and cover.

The Pick: Kansas City Chiefs -9 (-105)

Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings, 1 PM, FOX

The Vikings are the 6th seed in the NFC regardless of what happens here, so the approach for the week isn’t clear cut. The season has been a disappointment for the Bears, so closing on a high note should be a big priority. Bears get the win as Vikings look ahead to the Wild Card round.

The Pick: Chicago Bears +1 (-105)

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots, 1 PM, CBS

There’s no doubt the Patriots are a much better team here and seeing them lose on the home field when they still have lots to fight for would be stunning. However, there’s lots more to consider. Miami head coach Brian Flores has done a great job in an impossible spot. He just so happens to be a former assistant in New England. His squad will be ready to make a game of it.

The Pick: Miami Dolphins +15.5 (-105)

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1 PM, FOX

While there’s nothing at stake here, this game has the potential to be wildly entertaining. After tough starts, both of these teams are closing out the year playing well. The NFC South picture could look awfully different in 2020. The Buccaneers make another case for being a team to watch with a win and cover.

The Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -1 (-105)

New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers, 1 PM, FOX

This is another case of a climbing line. While there’s no question that the Saints should club the reeling Panthers, lots of changes are coming to Carolina in the offseason. As such, many players will be looking to state their case on Sunday. New Orleans wins, but Panthers keep the margin somewhat respectable.

The Pick: Carolina Panthers +13 (-105)

Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 PM, FOX

Over the past two weekends, the Cowboys have clobbered the Rams at home and no-showed on the road at the Eagles. What can we expect from this underperforming team in Week 17? It’s a coin flip. The line continues to climb, but the Redskins have been competitive in recent weeks. Dallas gets the win, but not without sweating a little.

The Pick: Washington Redskins +10.5 (-105)

Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos, 4:25 PM, CBS

The Raiders are still mathematically alive for a playoff spot, so common sense says we should see a competitive effort out of them. However, the team’s lack of consistency in 2019 tempers those thoughts. Nonetheless, we’ll err to the side that says the team with more to fight for gets the job done.

The Pick: Oakland Raiders +3 (-105)

Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams, 4:25 PM, FOX

The Cardinals have won two in a row as underdogs and impressed while doing so, but oddsmakers have still slapped a big number against them for Week 17. There has been chatter that the Rams may not necessarily be all in here as they look to rest some key cogs. Arizona covers, and closing out the year with a third straight win wouldn’t be stunning.

The Pick: Arizona Cardinals +7.5 (-105)

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants, 4:25 PM, FOX

If the Eagles win this game, they are champions of the NFC East. The Giants have had a dismal campaign, but the team has managed to win two in a row. Questions abound in New York, so a solid performance in the finale is at the top of the to-do list. Philadelphia gets its win, but the Giants make it a little interesting.

The Pick: New York Giants +4.5 (-105)

Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars, 4:25 PM, CBS

The Jaguars, losers of six of their last seven, close out the year at home versus a Colts team which tailed off after a great start to the year. Problems abound in Jacksonville, and they haven’t been fixed with the dismissal of Tom Coughlin. Indianapolis closes out the year strong with a win and cover.

The Pick: Indianapolis Colts +4 (-105)

Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens, 4:25 PM, CBS

The Steelers have to win to keep playoff hopes alive, while the Ravens are locked into the top seed in the AFC and have nothing to play for. On paper, that points to a big Pittsburgh win, but the line is tight due to the team’s offensive struggles. The Steelers don’t have the firepower to blow anyone out, but they can handle a team with its sights set on the postseason.

The Pick: Pittsburgh Steelers -2 (-105)

Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans, 4:25 PM, CBS

The Titans have picked an awful time to drop two in a row, but they head to Houston with a crystal clear mission. A win over the Texans will give them the 6th spot in the AFC Playoffs. Tennessee is built like a team which could be a tough out if they get there. We’ll look for that to happen on Sunday as the Titans win and cover.

The Pick: Tennessee Titans -3.5 (-105)

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks, 8:20 PM, NBC

The final game of the day is the equivalent of a heavyweight prizefight out in Seattle. This line opened up with the Seahawks a slight home favorite, but it has shifted as the week has moved along. The Seahawks have been decimated in the backfield, while both clubs are battling injuries on defense. Seattle has shown vulnerability at home this year as well, but them plus the points in what will be a raucous environment is a risk worth taking.

The Pick: Seattle Seahawks +3 (-105)
