      Washington Commanders at Detroit Lions

The Commanders won their first playoff game in two decades last week in Tampa. It's incredible the turnaround this team has had with Dan Quinn as their head coach, but more importantly, Jayden Daniels at quarterback. Daniels will undoubtedly win Offensive Rookie of the Year with 3,568 passing yards, a 25:9 touchdown-to-interception ratio, 891 rushing yards, and a 70.4 QB Rating (fourth in the league).

Washington is mirroring the Texans from last season with a rookie quarterback and a new coach who made an amazing run, which included a playoff win. It will be tough for them to contain the Detroit offense, which is one of the best in the league, scoring 33.2 points per game. This was a below-average Commanders' defense for most of the year, as they finished 22nd in defensive expected points added (EPA) and 18th in points allowed per game. One spot where they could give trouble for the Lions is in the passing game, where they finished third in passing yards allowed per game and sixth in opponent completion percentage.

While they might be able to keep Jared Goff and the passing game quiet, the Commanders still have to worry about Detroit’s stellar backfield. The good news for the Lions is they will be at full strength with David Montgomery set to return. Jahmyr Gibbs was excellent in the feature role, averaging 121.6 yards and five touchdowns in three games as the starter. It's still important to have Montgomery in the lineup because he's a different style of running back; he runs with power while Gibbs runs with flash, hence why they are nicknamed Sonic and Knuckles.

While they are getting healthier on offense, the defense will still be missing several key players. They have needed to rely on their offense because they have been in shootouts and have allowed 30+ points in three of their last five games. Detroit is similar to Tampa. They like to blitz, but they might scale it back to keep Daniels from taking off because we've seen him break big runs, so look for the Lions to have at least one or even multiple spies to try and contain him.

The Commanders have kept games close in losses and have the offensive talent to keep up with the Lions. It will come down to which team makes fewer mistakes and which coach calls a better game. All but one game last week, including Commanders-Buccaneers, went under, but we could see a lot of scoring from two excellent offenses in this game.
