Sunday’s Best NFL Preseason Picks & Bets

Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook | All bets are for 1 unit

    Jacksonville Jaguars (-164) at New Orleans Saints (+138) | O/U 40.5 (-110/-110

The Jaguars (0-1) opened the preseason with a competitive and high-scoring 31-25 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Duval last weekend. They didn’t come close to covering the number, but the Over (37.5) easily cashed.

Jacksonville saw QB Trevor Lawrence make a cameo, going 6-of-7 for 43 yards, while QBs Seth Henigan, Nick Mullens and John Wolford battled for the other two quarterback jobs, seeing a majority of the time. With the second preseason game, most teams figure to use their starters a lot more in a potential dress rehearsal for the season. The Jags go deep in the running backs department, with RBs Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby, while Bhayshul Tuten was good for 24 yards and a rushing score last week. The Jags are pretty deep in the receiver area, too, and two-way rookie WR/CB Travis Hunter debuted with two grabs for nine yards.

For New Orleans, it was on the short end of a 27-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, failing to cover as 2-point underdogs while the Over (38.5) also connected in their game. Under center, the race isn’t as clear, with QBs Spencer Rattler, the incumbent, battling second-round draft pick QB Tyler Shough, for the starting spot. Shough had a pick-six last weekend, looking the part of rookie, but he also had a long TD strike to WR Mason Tipton, and he did some good things, too.

While the Jaguars are favored, and quite talented in the skill position spots up top, the Saints should have quality quarterback play throughout, and that is reason enough to back New Orleans, especially at home.

As far as the total, both of these teams went Over, and the total has gone high in 14 of the first 17 preseason games through Week 1. We’ll go high on the total, as these teams play in controlled environmental conditions under the roof in the Big Easy.

    Picks: Saints +3 (-110) & Over 40.5 Points (-110)

    Buffalo Bills (+122) at Chicago Bears (-144) | O/U 40.5 (-120/-102

The Bills (0-1) were on the short end of a 34-25 loss to the New York Giants at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, while the Bears played to a 24-24 tie against the Miami Dolphins at Soldier Field.

Bills Mafia is not going to fret about the nine-point loss at home, as QB Josh Allen didn’t play, and RB James Cook was still “holding in” due to “business”, and he was relegated to the exercise bike. A lot changes in a week, though, as Cook has a new deal, and Allen figures to at least make an appearance for a drive or two, if not more. Former Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky also likely will see plenty of action, and he could feed off what is likely to be some boos in his old stomping grounds.

The Bears also did not play their starting quarterback, as QB Caleb Williams sat on the sidelines, with QBs Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum battling for the backup job, playing a majority of the game. Both backups were impressive for Chitown.

The Bears go deep at running back, as rookie RB Kyle Monangai is battling veteran RB Travis Homer for the third-string job, and both figure to get an extensive look. WR Luther Burden III is turning heads in camp, too, as is fellow rookie TE Colston Loveland.

This should be a high-scoring affair, so we’ll go high on the total, like above. Also, let’s take Allen and the Bills catching value on the moneyline in what could be a fun game on FOX.

    Picks: Bills Moneyline (+122) & Over 40.5 Points (-120)
