Fortunately for Lions fans, this is a different Detroit Lions team from what we've seen in the past. Entering this game, the Lions are off to their best start since 1956, and they're looking to win their 7th straight game.

The Texans have lost two of their last three games, and their offense has been inconsistent during that span. Fortunately, they should get WR Nico Collins back, giving QB C.J. Stroud more consistent weapons in the passing game.

Speaking of consistency, there may not be a more consistent quarterback in the NFL than Lions QB Jared Goff right now. Over the last 6 games, Goff is the first QB in league history to complete at least 72% of his passes with a passer rating of 105 or higher. We'll see what he does against a Texans defense that only allows 167.4 passing yards per game (3rd best in the NFL). Goff will get WR Jameson Williams back for this game so having another weapon in the passing game should help him.

Aside from the quarterbacks and pass catchers, the run game tends to be the difference maker in the Lions games. If the Lions can stop the run, their chances of winning tend to be greater. Meanwhile, it's no secret that the Lions can run the football. They've got the 6th best rushing attack in the NFL by averaging 152.6 rushing yards per game.

RB Jahmyr Gibbs is leading the way on the ground for the Lions. Through 8 games, Gibbs has recorded 656 rushing yards on 103 carries and 7 touchdowns. Matching him with 7 rushing touchdowns is teammate David Montgomery. Both of these running backs will split carries for the Lions offense, and they tend to wear defenses out with the combination.

The Texans defense will play without DE Will Anderson, who is out with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, his teammate DT Foley Fatuski is not expected to play with a groin and shoulder injury. This should help the Lions rushing attack stay consistent like it has for much of this season.

In the red zone this season, David Montgomery is ranked 5th for rushing yards by an RB with 95 yards. He's done that on 28 carries, resulting in 7 rushing touchdowns. Outside of two games this season, Montgomery has been able to score in every single game this season, and I think he can find the end zone tonight against the Texans.

The Texans’ defense hasn't been overly generous to running backs, allowing only 6 touchdowns this season. However, they haven't played an offense quite like the Lions. Expect Detroit's offense to keep rolling, and both of their running backs will see plenty of touches in this game.
