Sunday Night Football Best Same Game Parlay Bets: Lions vs. Vikings

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions

The Lions and Vikings can light up the scoreboard, and their defenses lag behind their high-powered offenses. As a result, Detroit’s previous four games have exceeded 50.5 points, and Minnesota’s have gone over 50.5 in three of their last four. These NFC North foes also scored 60 combined points earlier this year. So, the first leg is a chalky parlay starter, but probably not as chalky as it should be.

Jared Goff and Sam Darnold should succeed through the air. According to Pro-Football-Reference, the Lions (264.9 passing yards per game) and the Vikings (263.4 passing yards per game) have allowed the third-most and fourth-most passing yards per game to quarterbacks this season. Neither defense is in good form.

According to the data suite at Fantasy Points, since Week 14, the Lions have coughed up 328.5 passing yards per game at a clip of 9.81 yards per attempt. The Vikings have ceded 259.8 yards yards per game at a rate of 7.32 per attempt.

Goff is on a heater, spinning it for 303, 336, 494 and 283 passing yards in his past four games. Darnold had a career-high 377 passing yards last week after setting his high at 347 in Week 14. The Lions don’t have the horses to keep up with Minnesota’s pass-catching corps. FantasyPros projects Goff for 270.2 passing yards against the Vikings and Darnold to tally 289.6 against the Lions.

Amon-Ra St. Brown and Justin Jefferson are the respective No. 1 pass-catching weapons for their teams and two of the best wideouts in the NFL. The Sun God has averaged 74.1 receiving yards per game in 16 games this season. He’s had at least 70 receiving yards in three of his previous five games and barbecued the Vikings for 112 in Week 7. St. Brown has also averaged 81.8 receiving yards per game at home this year.

Meanwhile, Jefferson has had 92.4 receiving yards per game in 16 contests this season, with a median of 88.5. He’s had at least 70 receiving yards in 13 games this year, including totaling 81 against the Lions earlier this year. Jefferson also has a lengthy track record of feasting indoors. Per Pro-Football-Reference, Jefferson has averaged 108.9 receiving yards per game in 46 career games in domes.

Jefferson and St. Brown also have the two best matchups for wide receivers. The Lions have coughed up the most receiving yards per game (190) to wide receivers this season. The Vikings have yielded the second-most (186.1). Thus, FantasyPros projects Jefferson for 100.4 receiving yards and St. Brown for 79.6.

Sam LaPorta can also get in on the offensive bonanza. The second-year pro has averaged 3.5 receptions per game and 44.2 receiving yards per game in 15 contests this season. LaPorta has recorded at least 40 receiving yards nine times this year, with a median of 45. He’s also had at least 40 receiving yards in four straight games, averaging 55.6 per game during that period. FantasyPros projects him for 53.2 receiving yards on Sunday Night Football.
