Detroit Lions First TD Scorer: Jahmyr Gibbs (+250)
The Lions have arguably the best offense in the NFL. After averaging a league-high 33.2 points per game last season, Detroit has averaged 34.8 this year. More importantly, Gibbs plays a massive role in the team's offensive success. The superstar leads the Lions in rushing touchdowns (four) and is second in offensive scores (five). Furthermore, he has scored the first Detroit touchdown in 60% of the games this season, including three of the past four outings.
Unfortunately, the Chiefs' run defense has struggled this year. They have surrendered six rushing touchdowns and 4.8 yards per attempt. Furthermore, Kansas City has given up four touchdowns to running backs, including three on the ground, allowing a score in three of their past four games. More importantly, all three of those touchdowns were the first score of the game for the Chiefs' opponent. Expect Gibbs to have a massive role for the Lions early in Sunday night's matchup.
Kansas City Chiefs First TD Scorer: Travis Kelce (+490)
While he is no longer a superstar difference maker, Kelce is still one of the better tight ends in the NFL. Furthermore, the future Hall of Famer is one of Patrick Mahomes' go-to targets with Rashee Rice out of the lineup because of a suspension. The veteran tight end has two receiving touchdowns this season, the second-most on the team. Meanwhile, the first Chiefs touchdown has been a receiving one in three consecutive games.
More importantly, Kelce scored the first Kansas City touchdown last week in the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meanwhile, the Lions haven't faced many teams with a difference-making tight end. However, they've surrendered three receiving touchdowns to tight ends, including two to Mark Andrews a few weeks ago. Furthermore, the first touchdown scored against Detroit has been a receiving one in three of five games this year, including last week. The trend should continue in Week 6.
Anytime TD Scorer: Amon-Ra St. Brown (+110)
Detroit's passing attack is one of the best in the NFL because of St. Brown. The former USC star leads the team in receptions (35), targets (41), receiving yards (407), and touchdowns (six). Furthermore, he leads the league in receiving touchdowns while ranking second to Jonathan Taylor (seven) in offensive scores. The superstar struggled in Week 1. However, he has six receiving touchdowns over the past four weeks, totaling at least one in all but one contest.
Furthermore, St. Brown has more games this season with a receiving touchdown (three) than without finding the end zone (two). Meanwhile, the Chiefs haven't faced a passing attack like the Lions this year. The closest they came was in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers, allowing three touchdowns to wide receivers, surrendering two to Quentin Johnston and one to Keenan Allen. Last week, Kansas City gave up a receiving touchdown to Parker Washington, his first this season.
Anytime TD Scorer: Tyquan Thornton (+265)
I decided to go with Thornton over Xavier Worthy for my final touchdown pick. The decision was a gut call, but the former Baylor star has played well for the Chiefs. He has three receiving touchdowns over the first five weeks, the most on the team, totaling one more than every other Kansas City wide receiver combined. More importantly, Thornton's three receiving touchdowns are one more than his career total entering the year (two).
Meanwhile, the Lions have surrendered seven receiving touchdowns to wide receivers this season, the third-most in the NFL. They have allowed at least one receiving touchdown to wide receivers in all but one game, including three to the Cincinnati Bengals' corps last week. Furthermore, Detroit will be without their top two cornerbacks, D.J. Reed (hamstring) and Terrion Arnold (shoulder), because of injury. Don't be surprised if Thornton has a deep ball touchdown on Sunday night.
