Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook
Detroit Lions First TD Scorer: Amon-Ra St. Brown (+440)
While the Lions want to be a run-first offense, the way to attack the Texans' defense is in the air. Therefore, expect offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to draw up a game plan to take advantage of Houston's weaknesses early in the game. St. Brown leads Detroit in receiving touchdowns (six), accounting for 37.5% of the team's total. More importantly, the superstar wide receiver had the Lions' first touchdown last week against the Green Bay Packers.
Meanwhile, the first touchdown scored against the Texans has been by a wide receiver in 66.7% of their games, including back-to-back weeks. Furthermore, Houston has struggled against slot receivers. They have surrendered 19 passing touchdowns this season, with 11 coming from players in the slot, the most in the NFL. The Texans have given up at least one touchdown to a slot receiver in 77.8% of their games, including four consecutive weeks.
Houston Texans First TD Scorer: Joe Mixon (+155)
Mixon has seven touchdowns this year despite missing three games, the eighth-most in the NFL entering Week 10. The superstar running back has found the end zone at least once in every game he finished, including four consecutive contests since returning from an ankle injury. Furthermore, he has more games with two touchdowns (two) than without finding the end zone (one). More importantly, Mixon has scored the first Houston touchdown in half of his games, including three consecutive contests.
Detroit has one of the top-run defenses in the league. However, the Lions have had issues keeping elite running backs out of the end zone. They've given up five touchdowns to running backs, one of the lowest totals in the NFL. Yet, running backs have found the end zone in two of the past three games against Detroit. More importantly, the first touchdown against the Lions has been a rushing score in four consecutive games.
Anytime TD Scorer: Jahmyr Gibbs (-145)
Both teams in this game have talented run defenses. However, they both also have elite rushing attacks. While the Texans might stop the Lions rushing attack early in the game, expect Gibbs to find the end zone at least once Sunday night. The second-year pro leads the team in rushing touchdowns (seven) and offensive scores (eight). He has found the end zone at least once in 75% of the games this season, including three straight.
Furthermore, Gibbs has six rushing touchdowns over the past five games, scoring twice in two of those contests. Meanwhile, the Texans have done well at keeping running backs out of the end zone, surrendering six touchdowns in nine games. However, they have had their issues with elite rushing attacks. Houston gave up a touchdown to Jonathan Taylor in both matchups this year. They also surrendered a receiving touchdown to Josh Jacobs in Week 7.
Anytime TD Scorer: Nico Collins (+130)
Hopefully, Collins plays Sunday night after being a limited participant in practice on Friday. The superstar wide receiver has missed the past four games because of a hamstring injury. He has three receiving touchdowns this season, finding the end zone in three of his past four contests. More importantly, Collins leads the Texans in end zone targets (seven) and team receiving touchdown market share (42.9%) this year despite missing time with the injury (per Fantasy Points Data).
Bettors can pivot to Tank Dell (+130) to score an anytime touchdown if Collins doesn't play Sunday night. The second-year wide receiver has struggled, with Collins and Stefon Diggs being Houston's top two options in the passing game. However, he has scored both his touchdowns over the past four weeks with both star receivers injured. Furthermore, Dell has averaged 6.5 targets per game over the past month, seeing nine or more in half of those contests.
Meanwhile, the Lions have had a bend but don't break type of pass defense. They have given up the second-most receiving yards to wide receivers, surrendering 209 per game. However, Detroit has allowed only five receiving touchdowns to wide receivers, the third-fewest in the NFL. The Lions have had their issues with elite wide receivers. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is the only non-No. 1 wide receiver to find the end zone against Detroit this season.
