Los Angeles Rams -3.5 (-118)
Myles Garrett will go head-to-head with Trent Williams, which will certainly be a battle worth watching. The 49ers’ interior offensive line is a bit of a weak link, with Connor Colby at left guard.
As for the Rams’ offense, they still have reigning MVP Matthew Stafford, wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, running backs Kyren Williams and Blake Corum, as well as a bevy of tight ends, including rookie Max Klare.
When pressured last season, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy completed 54.2% of his passes for 528 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions. Not only will he have to deal with pressure, but he’ll have to combat the Rams’ two new starting cornerbacks, Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, who were teammates in Kansas City previously.
I think the Rams will prove to be too much. They’re close to a super team.
De’Zhaun Stribling 3+ Receptions (-179)
The 49ers surprised everyone by taking De’Zhaun Stribling in the second round, but all offseason reports have signaled they have big plans for the former Ole Miss receiver.
According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Stribling will be the primary slot receiver and Mike Evans’ understudy, and should see plenty of snaps.
Stribling will battle Evans, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey for targets. Evans has been banged up this offseason, and Kittle is coming off a torn Achilles.
As a starting slot receiver, Stribling should be in line for quite a few targets. It’s his debut, but three catches feels like a safe number to beat.
Christian McCaffrey Anytime Touchdown Scorer (-140)
Christian McCaffrey led the 49ers last season in target share at 23.5% and had 311 carries for 1,202 yards and 17 total touchdowns (10 rushing; 7 receiving). He scored a touchdown in 12 games last season, including one against the Rams, where he caught eight passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.
With George Kittle coming off an injury and Ricky Pearsall suffering a season-ending injury, McCaffrey is going to see plenty of work and volume, and he should score a touchdown.
