NFL Week 17 Odds, Picks & Predictions: Underdog Bets (2023)

In Week 16, underdogs bounced back in a big way, much like we predicted in last week’s article. It started on Saturday, when both the Steelers and Chargers covered their spreads, and went all the way into Monday night, where we saw the Ravens make a statement in San Francisco. With two weeks remaining in the regular season, could we see underdogs shake up the playoff picture?

Let’s look at our top Week 17 underdog bets.

NFL Week 17: Top Underdog Bets

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Detroit Lions (+6) @ Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have been unstoppable at home (7-0) but they’ve struggled on the road (3-5). Yes, they’re in Dallas for this game, but I feel like this spread is too large for a very solid Lions team. The matchup to watch will be Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb versus this struggling Lions defense. One thing that’s on Detroit’s side is the 8:15 PM kickoff, as the Lions seem to play their best when the whole world is watching. They’re 3-0 in primetime games this year, including their huge Week 1 road win at Kansas City. Dan Campbell knows how to motivate this team and I expect them to be ready to play on Saturday in Dallas as they continue to hunt for one of the top seeds in the NFC playoffs.

Bet: Lions +6 (-110)

Las Vegas Raiders (+3.5) Indianapolis Colts

You have to love what Antonio Pierce is doing for this Raiders team. Early on this season, it seemed like this franchise was going to be held back for the next few years by past coaches and General Managers and the moves made by them. Fast forward to now, and Pierce has made everyone forget about all the drama; things are looking up for this team in 2024. You can tell these guys want to play hard for him, and will never quit despite the minimal chance of making playoffs this year. This week, they’re underdogs once again facing a very average Colts team on the road in Indianapolis. Believe it or not, the Raiders actually have a pretty solid chance to make the postseason with a win this week and against the Broncos next week. I expect Pierce to feed off of that possibility and have his team ready to go once again.

Bet: Raiders +3.5 (-110

New Orleans Saints (+2.5) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay has been a revelation this year, when most people expected the team to be out of the playoff picture before the season began. But I don’t think they will run away with this division as easily as it seems right now. Yes, they’ve won four straight games, but I actually think that streak ends this week. As divisional rivals, the Buccaneers and the Saints know each other very well and I think the Saints will come to play with their season on the line. These teams don’t like each other, and I expect the Saints defense to make this game personal. They want nothing more than to give Baker Mayfield a hard time after all the praise he’s been getting. Look for the Saints to get Alvin Kamara involved in a big way this week after barely touching the ball a week ago. They’ll have ten days of rest since they last played and will be ready to go in a big divisional matchup.

Bet: Saints +2.5 (-110)
