NFL Week 17 Weather Report & Predictions (2024)
It’s Week 17 of the National Football League (NFL) regular season. We’re through the holidays and the two Netflix games from Wednesday. The streaming service’s coverage of the games seemed to go a lot better than the ridiculousness of the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight. It appears streaming on several different services is here to stay, people, like it or not.
I am super excited about this weekend’s weather, and I have been waiting a long time for this kind of forecast for each NFL venue. We have the Los Angeles Rams indoors on Saturday, with indoor teams New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings hosting on Sunday. With the San Francisco 49ers hosting a game on Monday night, that venue will be the only outdoor site not dealing with precipitation.
Let’s dive into the Week 17 weather report.

NFL Week 17 Weather Report: Advice & Predictions
(All forecasts courtesy of AccuWeather.com | Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook)
Seattle Seahawks (-4) at Chicago Bears | Total 42 (Thursday Night Football)
Forecast: 45 degrees, 30% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 7-8 MPH
For the Thursday Night Football game, we will have some showers moving into the Chicago area around 9:00 p.m. CT, or roughly the third quarter. The game certainly won’t be a washout, especially in the first half, but the precipitation should pick up as the second half rolls along.
Los Angeles Chargers (-4) at New England Patriots | Total 42.5 (Saturday)
Forecast: 41 degrees, 50% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 2-4 MPH
The Chargers and Patriots kick off an NFL Network tripleheader on Saturday. The first two outdoor games figure to be slippery, sloppy messes. We’ll have a decent chance of showers throughout the game in Foxboro, but at least temperatures will be rather mild with only a slight breeze.
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5) | Total 49.5 (Saturday)
Forecast: 59 degrees, 40% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 5-8 MPH
Speaking of balmy conditions, temperatures will be pushing 60 degrees on Saturday in the ‘Nati in late December. Don’t worry, though, as the pattern will change soon, and the cold air is just around the corner. For Saturday’s middle game, we’ll have a decent chance of a steady, light rain, with a slight breeze.
Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams (-6.5) | Total 47.5 (Saturday)
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome
Boo. The Cardinals and Rams are indoors at SoFi Stadium, and not getting in on any of the rain-slicked football going on all weekend. Even if they were outdoors, temperatures are in the 60s with just slightly cloudy conditions. And, in SoCal fashion, the biggest concern is a Beach Hazard Statement, with dangerous rip currents and elevated surf up to 4-6 feet from the Malibu Coast through the L.A. beaches. Surf’s up.
Indianapolis Colts (-7.5) at New York Giants | Total 40.5
Forecast: 55 degrees, 70% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 10-12 MPH
The Colts come outdoors and will be met with ugly conditions. The rain could be heavy at times in East Rutherford, likely leading to a mostly ground-based attack for both sides. That’s great news for Colts QB Anthony Richardson, RB Jonathan Taylor and Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. It could also be good for under bettors.
Las Vegas Raiders (-1) at New Orleans Saints | Total 38
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome
There is a 0% chance of precipitation in NOLA on Sunday, as they play under the roof, but there is also an 80% chance of bad football, maybe higher at times. The Saints are coming off a shutout loss in Green Bay while playing on a short week. Surprisingly, the Raiders are favored on the road for the first time since October 22nd, 2023 at Chicago.
Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars (-1) | Total 39.5
Forecast: 72 degrees, 30% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 10-13 MPH
There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms, so it could be hit-and-miss in Duval. Don’t expect a long period of rain, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see a potential lightning delay, albeit a brief one.
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills (-8.5) | Total 46.5
Forecast: 52 degrees, 60% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 9-11 MPH
For Western New York, temperatures in the 50s around New Year’s certainly are unexpected. We have a shield of light rain, but it’s nothing like the lake-effect snow we usually see this time of year. The winds will be kicking up 9-11 miles per hour (MPH), with gusts up to 15 MPH.
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-7.5) | Total 48.5
Forecast: 76 degrees, 30% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 7-9 MPH
There is a better chance of thunderstorms in the Tampa area, but it won’t be a total washout on the Suncoast, either. Look for some strokes of lightning, and perhaps even a slight delay, but the precipitation shouldn’t be a problem.
Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5) | Total 39.5
Forecast: 62 degrees, 75% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 13-16 MPH
The worst weather of the weekend might go to the City of Brotherly Love. Yes, the temperatures will at least be mild, feeling like a spring day, but there will be a chance of heavier rain at times, and the winds will be kicking up substantially. Bad news for the kicking games, in particular.
Miami Dolphins (-6.5) at Cleveland Browns | Total 39.5
Forecast: 53 degrees, 70% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 10-13 MPH
Expect rather sloppy conditions on the North Coast, as there will be a gray dome with a steady stream of showers coming off of Lake Erie. The winds won’t be too terrible, but they’ll be steady at 10-13 MPH, with gusts from 15-20 MPH, perhaps making things treacherous for the downfield pass and kicking games.
Green Bay Packers (-1) at Minnesota Vikings | Total 48.5
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome
The biggest surprise here isn’t the weather, as these teams are indoors. The Packers are a road favorite against the Vikings, who are still contending for the NFC North title and the No. 1 overall seed. Hmm. No respect for the boys in purple, eh?
Atlanta Falcons at Washington Commanders (-4) | Total 47.5
Forecast: 59 degrees, 80% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 6-9 MPH
The Falcons and Commanders are outdoors for Sunday Night Football, and we’re back into the elements. The East Coast and Mid-Atlantic are going to get inundated by a wet system and Washington won’t escape the rain. It could be heavy at times, but at least it will be rather mild, and the winds won’t be heavy.
Detroit Lions (-3.5) at San Francisco 49ers | Total 50.5
Forecast: 55 degrees, 5% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 3-5 MPH
Meh. After a couple of eventful days of wind, rain or both, the Monday Night Football game should have dry conditions and a fast track, as the Lions try to keep their foot on the gas pedal heading for a division title and the No. 1 overall seed.
