NFL Week 5 First Touchdown Scorers Picks & Predictions
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook unless otherwise noted)
Denver Broncos @ Philadelphia Eagles
Saquon Barkley is not having a season like he did last year, but he is still finding the end zone frequently. He has three touchdowns through four games. The Eagles average 8.8 first-quarter points per game, while allowing five. The Broncos average 4.3 points in the first quarter per game, and allow 3.8.
The Broncos have a solid pass defense and are more vulnerable on the ground. They also allow the highest yards per reception to the running back position at 14.08 yards. Barkley averages four targets per game, with 19.25 carries per game. He is much lower on every other sportsbook, so take the value while you can.
Pick: Saquon Barkley (+460 via FanDuel Sportsbook)
Dallas Cowboys @ New York Jets
These teams tend to get off to slow starts, allowing their opponents to score points in the first quarter. One of them has to score first, and I would put my money on the Cowboys. Their offense looked elite last week against the Packers, and Javonte Williams played a crucial role. He has played well all season, with 312 rushing yards and four touchdowns, on five yards per carry.
Williams is the red-zone threat for this team. He has 10 rushing attempts and three targets, which he has turned into three rushing touchdowns and three receptions. He is utilized at a high rate and should fare well against a Jets defense allowing 130.5 rushing yards per game.
Pick: Javonte Williams (+650)
Las Vegas Raiders @ Indianapolis Colts
Tyler Warren ranks fourth in the league, averaging 6.8 targets per game. The passing attack runs through him and Michael Pittman Jr. The Raiders have yet to allow a tight end to score a touchdown against them, but they do allow the second-most yards per catch to the position (13.92).
The Colts have made it clear that Tyler Warren will be involved. He has three targets and two rushing attempts in the red zone. He should have room to work this week.
Pick: Tyler Warren (+950)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Seattle Seahawks
Seattle averages 8.8 points per first quarter this season, while allowing four. The Buccaneers allow 8.5 points per first quarter, and only score 3.3 on offense. The Seahawks have the better odds of scoring first, and Kenneth Walker offers solid value. Zach Charbonnet has received most of the goal-line carries, but it is actually a lot closer than it seems.
Walker has 11 attempts for 43 yards and three touchdowns in the red zone. Charbonnet has 10 attempts for 17 yards and two touchdowns. Walker is far more efficient, and he is worth a stab this week against the Buccaneers, who start slowly.
Pick: Kenneth Walker III (+500)
Washington Commanders @ Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers average five points per first quarter and allow only 2.5 points. The Commanders have not started as well in their games. They only score 3.5 points per first quarter and allow five on defense. There is some concern with the Chargers this week as they deal with injuries to their offensive line, but it may provide more targets closer to the line of scrimmage.
Oronde Gadsden II played 48% of snaps last week and received three targets. He played 26% of snaps the week prior and received seven targets. He also has two targets in the red zone this season and is becoming more involved in this offense. Gadsden is a longshot that I like this week against a team that allows the most fantasy points to the tight end position.
Pick: Oronde Gadsden II (+1500 via Fanatics Sportsbook)
