NFL Week 5 Weather Report & Predictions (2024)
Week 5 of the National Football League is here. We get our first teams on a bye, as the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans are resting their bumps and bruises. In addition, we have a kickoff at 9:30 a.m. ET in England, which will happen each of the next three weeks, so be mindful.
Last week, the weather forecast called for just a 20% chance of precipitation for the Denver Broncos-New York Jets game, but that ended up being a soggy mess for the entire afternoon. So, be careful and make sure to double and triple-check the weather. A changing forecast and a good shield of rain and/or wind can certainly change the landscape of a football game.
The nice thing, if you’re a football purist, is that we will have only two games under a dome in Week 5, and it’s possible Houston’s NRG Stadium could have the roof open, too.

NFL Week 5 Weather Report: Advice & Predictions
All forecasts courtesy of AccuWeather.com | Odds via FanDuel Sportsbook
New York Jets at Minnesota Vikings (-2.5) – London, UK | Total 40.5
Forecast: 62 degrees Fahrenheit (16.7 Celsius), 30% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 9-11 MPH (14-17 KPH)
The Jets and Vikings tangle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, and the Jets are bringing the soggy weather with them across the pond. We’ll have a chance of off-and-on showers throughout the game, although the precipitation is expected to be light. Still, it could be rather slippery with a soccer pitch, and the winds will be kicking up at times, too.
Carolina Panthers at Chicago Bears (-3.5) | Total 41
Forecast: 73 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 15-17 MPH
The Panthers and Bears tangle in the Windy City, and Chicago will once again live up to that moniker. While it will be clear, the winds will be whipping, potentially affecting the passing and kicking games.
Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) at Cincinnati Bengals | Total 49
Forecast: 81 degrees, 15% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 11-13 MPH
Partly cloudy conditions are expected for Sunday’s divisional matchup in the Queen City. While conditions should be dry, be mindful of winds kicking up to 11-13 MPH sustained, with additional gusts sometimes.
Buffalo Bills (-1) at Houston Texans | Total 47.5
Forecast: 90 degrees, 5% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 8-11 MPH
With temperatures expected to be near 90 degrees, the roof at NRG Stadium is all but likely to be closed. Controlled environmental conditions are good news for the quarterbacks, receivers and kickers.
Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5) | Total 46
Forecast: 79 degrees, 80% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 10-12 MPH
An undeveloped tropical disturbance is expected to move across the Florida Peninsula over the weekend, bringing several inches of rain to most of the state. In Duval, there is an 80% chance of rain, perhaps heavy at times, with winds kicking up to 10-12 MPH, too. It could be the sloppiest game of the weekend schedule.
Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots (-1) | Total 36.5
Forecast: 65 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 5-7 MPH
The Dolphins and Patriots lock horns in an AFC East Division battle in Foxboro on Sunday afternoon. While the offense might be ugly on both sides, at least the weather will be pleasant.
Cleveland Browns at Washington Commanders (-3) | Total 43.5
Forecast: 72 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 4-6 MPH
The Browns and Commanders will compete under picture-perfect conditions outside the nation’s capital this Sunday. QB Deshaun Watson will have a dry track, but that doesn’t matter if your entire offensive line is banged up. Rookie QB Jayden Daniels has had no such issues and he is rolling.
Las Vegas Raiders at Denver Broncos (-2.5) | Total 35.5
Forecast: 74 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 4-7 MPH
The Raiders and Broncos tangle in the Mile High City, and we’ll have beautiful conditions with a very light breeze. Don’t get used to it, as we’re into October, and it will be much worse in another month or two.
Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers (-7) | Total 49.5
Forecast: 94 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 8-11 MPH
There is an excessive heat warning for the area, as temperatures are unseasonably warm. There is also a hot wind which will make things a little more bearable, but this is definitely unusual for NorCal.
Green Bay Packers (-3) at Los Angeles Rams | Total 48.5
Forecast: Indoors
Wind speed: This game is played in a dome
Boo, this is the only game on the schedule which has a 100% chance of being played in a dome, as Houston has a slight chance of the roof being open. Football belongs outdoors.
New York Giants at Seattle Seahawks (-6.5) | Total 43.5
Forecast: 62 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 2-3 MPH
Seattle will be tied with London for the coolest forecasted kickoff temperature this weekend, and we’ll have very little wind, if any.
Dallas Cowboys at Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5) | Total 44
Forecast: 72 degrees, 70% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 8-10 MPH
The Sunday Night Football battle between these old-school rivals could be impacted by thunderstorms moving through the area. The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms anywhere from 6-10pm ET, tailing off to a light rain by 11pm ET. It wouldn’t be surprising to even see a lightning delay, and an amended kickoff time, so look out for that on SNF.
New Orleans Saints at Kansas City Chiefs (-5.5) | Total 43
Forecast: 73 degrees, 0% chance of precipitation
Wind speed: 6-8 MPH
The Saints and Chiefs will battle at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, and the conditions will be very pleasant. It will be a warm, clear night with only a slight wind, but nothing terribly impactful for the passing or kicking games of these respective teams.
