Top 3 NHL Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Monday (1/9)

Philadelphia Flyers (+184) vs. Buffalo Sabres (-225) | o/u 6.5 (-118/-104)

The Sabres have been getting it done on both sides lately and have won eight of their last nine. They are continuing to show their offensive prowess and have four or more goals in seven of nine and are third in goals above expected.

The Flyers have some young and upcoming talent but are not ready to compete as the offense is near the bottom, both on even strength and special teams. The lone bright spot this season is their goalkeeper Carter Hart, with +12.3 goals saved above expected.

All the circumstances are in Buffalo’s favor – they are the better team playing at home with a rest advantage. Philadelphia cannot offensively compete and will be a multiple-goal win.

Pick: Sabres -1.5 (+102)

Edmonton Oilers (+108) vs. Los Angeles Kings (-111) | o/u 6.5 (-105/-115)

The Oilers have one of the top-line duos in the league, and it is proving to be the catalyst. Leon Draisaitl is second in points with 62, but that’s far behind his linemate Connor McDavid with 76, and they need this offensive power with a subpar defense.

The Kings are becoming a balanced team and have shown improvement. The offense has always been there and the blue line allows under 30 shots per game, but defending the net has been a problem. They might have rectified that with Pheonix Copley who’s now 10-2-0, replacing long-time goalie Jonathan Quick.

The Kings can play aggressively at the blue line and interrupt the puck movement from the Oilers. They will contain Edmonton’s offense and grab the win.

Pick: Kings ML (-111)

Nashville Predators (+100) vs. Ottawa Senators (-120) | o/u 6 (-110/-110)

The Senators are decimated by injuries, especially in the forward unit, including Josh Norris and Tyler Motte. They’re getting by, going 8-5-1 in their last 13, with Cam Talbot and Anton Forsberg playing well behind the net.

The Predators have been playing well recently and are on the cusp of a playoff spot. This team sits near the middle statistically on both sides of the puck, but they are helped by Juuse Saros. Saros has been one of the best goalies this season, and his 16.4 goals saved above expected is fourth in the league.

Ottawa won the previous matchup in Nashville nearly a month ago, but the Preds are a better team. With Saros in the net, they are confident they can win any game. I’m grabbing the road team to win another one.

Pick: Predators ML (+100)
