Saturday’s Best NHL Bets

Detroit Red Wings (+275) vs. Boston Bruins (-330) | O/U 6.5 (+100/-120)

The Bruins had their ten-game winning streak snapped the other night against the Oilers. Still, this team is on pace to have the most wins and points in NHL history. They didn’t have Linus Ullmark in that loss, so he’ll be ready for tonight.

A couple of weeks ago, the Red Wings surged and were in playoff contention by winning six of eight. That quickly went away, and now come in, losing six of their last seven.

The offense had begun to play well, and Dylan Larkin was on a hot streak, but he has struggled with four points in his last nine games.

This is the first game of a home-home series, and they should easily take the first game in Garden.

Pick: Bruins -1.5 (-135)

Washington Capitals (+120) vs. New York Islanders (-140) | O/U 5.5 (-115/-105)

The Islanders continue to live off their defense. The goaltending has been remarkable, especially Ilya Sorokin, and his 32.8 Goals Saved Above Expected are second in the league.

They’ve needed Sorokin to be great because the forward unit has been lackluster. They tried upgrading by acquiring Bo Harvat, but he has just five goals in 15 games with the team.

The Capitals were sellers at the trade deadline in what’s been a disappointing year. On paper, they had an incredible roster coming into the season, but injuries to some of their important players made it tough to be competitive in this conference.

This should be an excellent goaltending matchup with Darcy Kuemper on the other side, allowing just 2.50 goals over his last four games. I like this to be a low-scoring game.

Pick: Under 5.5 (-105)

Nashville Predators (+130) vs. Los Angeles Kings (-150) | O/U 6 (-110/-110)

The Kings are one of the hotter teams in the league, going 10-2-1 recently, and are tied for first place in the Pacific.

The offense and blue line have excelled all season, but the goaltending was holding them back. They traded away long-time goalie Jonathan Quick to Columbus for Joonas Korpisalo, and it’s worked out so far. He has a .928 save percentage in two games.

The Predators saw they were going anywhere and decided to be sellers at the deadline. This team had struggled on offense all season, being 28th in Expected Goals Per 60. The blue line has been okay, but they have been bailed out by the Juuse Saros all season, and he’s third in Goals Saved Above Expected.

Goaltending alone isn’t going to help the Predators against the Kings, who have been playing great two-way hockey.

Pick: Kings 60 min. ML (+105)
