Washington Capitals (+125) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (-150) | O/U 6.5 (-105/-115)

The Penguins need a strong finish to the season because they could find themselves out of the playoff for the first time in 17 years. They have dropped five of their last six and hold just a one-point lead for that final Wild Card Spot. Casey DeSmith will likely get the start with Tristian Jarry day-to-day, but several players on the blue line could also be out with injuries.

On paper, the Capitals had an incredible roster coming into the season, but injuries to some important players made it tough to compete in this conference. They are just four points behind the Penguins, and a win could put them in an excellent place to make the playoffs.

The Capitals are playing better hockey at the moment, and the offense has been much better. The Penguins are already a below-average defense, and now they’ll be minus several players on that side. Pittsburgh isn’t so dominant at home where you feel they can overcome that. I’m taking the road dogs to get a crucial win.

Pick: Capitals ML (+125)

Vegas Golden Knights (+146) vs. Edmonton Oilers (-150) | O/U 6.5 (-130/+106)

The Golden Knights have continued to stay in first in what’s been a very tight race in the Pacific. They are coming into this game 8-2-0 over their last ten games, and they’ve needed every point because of how well everyone is playing. The saving grace has been the addition of Jonathan Quick, who has stepped into this lineup and is 6-1-0 since being acquired. It looks like he will have to do it again because Logan Thompson’s return looks to be short-lived.

The Oilers are one of those teams not far behind in that race. They’re coming winning five straight and sit just four points back. The offense continues to be the leading force as they are the best scoring team in the league two best players in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaital.

While Quick has done a great job in his new venture, The Oilers are way to way fast and move the puck too well. They will get the win and move closer to first.

Pick: Oilers 60 min. ML (-120)

Toronto Maple Leafs (+122) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (-146) | O/U 6.5 (+112/-138)

I love the way Toronto’s offense is playing right now, and maybe this year, they will actually win a playoff series. Mitchell Marner, Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Calle Jarnkrok, and William Nylander have three or more goals in their last ten games. The offense might have to step up because goalie Ilya Samsonov will be sidelined in this game.

Hurricanes roster runs deep also with 11 double-digit goal scorers, leading the league in Expected Goals Percentage.

This is also one of the more dominant defenses overall, and good luck getting through a blue line allowing 25.8 shots per game. With Antti Raanta out, Frederik Andersen has been great, going 3-1-0 in his last four games.

I’m surprised by how lopsided the odds on the total are. Toronto’s total has gone over in four of their last five and Carolina’s in three, plus the most recent matchup went over.

Pick: Over 6.5 (+112)
