Today’s Best NHL Bets

Let’s look at a few of our best NHL bets for Saturday’s slate of action.

Boston Bruins (-166) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (+136) | O/U 6.5 (-122/+100)

The Bruins continue to dominate by going 10-2-0 in January. They could set another milestone soon —they need to win two of their next four games to tie the 2015-16 Capitals for the fastest to 40 wins.

David Pastrnak has been stellar with a league’s fourth-best 70 points, and Brad Marchand is averaging over a point a game. This team possesses some of the best puck movement in the league and has six players with over 20 assists.

Then you have Linus Ullmark, who is largely favored to win the Vezina Trophy. No one is near his stratosphere behind the net, with his 4.58 Wins Above Replacement.

The Panthers have regressed from last year but still have a chance to grab a Wild Card Spot, but they’re fading as they’ve lost three straight.

The offense is still good, with the sixth-best expected goals percentage, but not on top like last year.

With Sergei Bobrovsky injured and Alex Lyon playing Friday, their 2019 first-round pick Spencer Knight will likely be in the lineup.

Even with backup goalies, the Bruins should be heavily favored. Jeremy Swayman has been great himself, winning five straight starts in six appearances with a .958 save percentage.

Pick: Bruins 60 min. ML (+104)

Philadelphia Flyers (+188) vs. Winnipeg Jets (-235) | O/U 6 (-115/-105)

The Jets had won seven of their previous eight, but now they’ve hit a slump losing four of six.
The defense has been impressive in that time, allowing just 1.50 goals per game, and they are sixth in goals against above expected this season. This is primarily due to goalie Connor Hellebuyck’s third in goals saved above expected.

The Flyers aren’t very good overall, but there are some things to celebrate.

Travis Konecny is having his best season, as he’s tied his career-high of 24 goals and his 49 points are just three from his best career best.

Then, of course, you have Carter Hart. He’s turned it around after a couple of down seasons and has 10.5 Goals Saved Above Expected

In the matchup last week, the Jets didn’t have Hellebuyck neither did the Flyers have Hart. With these two guys in the lineup, expect a much lower-scoring game, especially with neither offense playing well.

Pick: Under 6 (-105)

Buffalo Sabres (+150) vs. Minnesota Wild (-182) | O/U 6.5 (-128/+104)

The Wild are slumping as they’ve dropped six of their last ten, and those wins came against struggling teams.

The switching of goaltenders has been a successful move. Giving the aging Marc-Andre Fleury rest for Filip Gustavsson, who only played 27 games in his first seasons in Ottawa, is the smart move they should ride. Fleury has played two straight, so it should be Gustavsson behind the net tonight.

Gustavsson is making a case as the goalie for the future with a fifth-best 2.27 goals allowed.

They need the defense to regain momentum with an offense that sits in the middle in goals scored.

The Sabres are the best offenses in the league, scoring the most points per game. Tage Thompson has been a big part of that, with his 34 goals being third-best, and they have four forwards with at least 40 points.

Defenseman Rasmus Dahlin has been on fire lately, with multiple points in three of his five, and is now sixth in assists.

It was likely that Minnesota strategically held out Gustavsson all week for this opponent. The Sabres out-powered the Wild 6-5 with Fleury behind the net. Still expect a high-scoring game, but Minnesota can pull it off this time.

Pick Over 6 (-128)
