Top 3 NHL Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (1/14)
Vancouver Canucks (+225) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (-280) | O/U 6.5 (-112/-108)
The Hurricanes, after dropping four of their last five, have now won back-to-back games with the defense allowing just three goals. The blue line is top-notch, and they have one of the more efficient 5-on-5 offensive units.
Frederik Andersen has now had two incredible games since returning from injury. With the quick turnaround, it will be either Pyotr Kochetkov or Antti Raanta behind the net.
Itâs been a tough year for the Canucks as they sit near the bottom of the Western Conference. Offensively theyâre an excellent team both at full strength and on special teams, but the defense continues to cost them games.
Carolina is one of the toughest teams to beat on their home ice. Both teams played 24 hours ago, so there is no advantage. The Canes will score easily and can keep the Canucksâ contained to get a win.
Pick: Hurricanes -1.5 (-105)
Montreal Canadiens (+230) vs. New York Rangers (-285) | O/U 6 (-112/-110)
The Rangers have been outstanding recently, winning five of six against the Hurricanes, Stars, and Wild. The offense has kicked it up, and theyâve done well at attacking the net, getting those high-chance shots and second chances off the rebound.
The Canadiens had an incredible upset win over the Predators, but they havenât had much luck this year. They get outmatched on both sides of the ice and have trouble creating opportunities, and the goaltending is allowing 5.00 goals per game over the last nine.
The Rangers are better throughout the lines and will control the tempo of this game. They played some close ones, but this is a spot where they will win big in the garden.
Pick: Rangers -1.5 (-114)
Arizona Coyotes (+255) vs. Winnipeg Jets (-320) | O/U 6 (-110/-110)
The Jets have won seven of their last eight and are now tied with the Stars for first in the Central Division. Their strength has been on the defensive side, and they are sixth in goals against above expected (-13.86). This is primarily due to goalie Connor Hellebuyckâs third in goals saved above expected (17.4).
The Coyotes are on an abysmal run losing eight straight and seven by multiple goals. This roster needs a rebuild with no one in the top 50 in points, goals, or assists, and the defense is allowing the sixth-most goals.
This would be a massive upset for Arizona, even with a rest advantage. Take the Jets on the puck line.
Pick: Jets -1.5 (-122)
