Colorado Avalanche vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The defending champion Colorado Avalanche won seven of their last eight games heading into the all-star break, and they’ll look to keep it rolling as they open up a three-game road trip tonight. They’ll make stops in Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay and finish by taking on the Panthers in Florida. Puck drop for tonight’s cross-conference showdown is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from PPG Paints Arena.

I’m rolling with the Avs on the moneyline tonight. These two sides seem to be trending in opposite directions as the Penguins have lost six of their last nine games. That includes an embarrassing 6-4 home loss to the Sharks before heading into the break.

The issue over the last few games has been the defense and goaltending, where the Pens have allowed 15 goals in the previous three games. It’s expected that Casey DeSmith will get the nod between the pipes tonight, and he’s just 3-3-1 at home with a 4.33 GAA and .881 SV%. I’ll take this opportunity to fade Pittsburgh while they’re on the downswing. Give me the Avalanche to take the two points tonight.

Bet: Colorado Avalanche Moneyline (-110 via DraftKings)

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Nashville Predators

The Golden Knights open up the second half of the year with a two-game road trip, playing tonight in Nashville and following that up with a stop in Minnesota on Thursday night. Tonight’s Western Conference clash is slated for 8:00 p.m. ET from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN.

Similar to the above-mentioned game, these two teams are also currently on opposite trajectories. The Golden Knights have fallen out of first place in the Pacific and currently sit in third with 62 points. They’re just 1-5-2 over their last eight contests. As for the Predators, they’ve won five of their last six games and still find themselves hanging around the playoff race with 54 points.

I’m backing the Preds on their home ice tonight. They’re 14-7-3 at Bridgestone Arena, including five straight winning efforts. From a statistical standpoint, look for them to rely on the excellent goaltending abilities of Juuse Saros. The Finnish netminder is 13-6-3 at home with a 2.57 GAA and .923 SV%. I expect him to shut down this Vegas team that’s averaging just 2.0 goals per game over their last eight contests.

Bet: Nashville Predators Moneyline (-110 via DraftKings)

Anaheim Ducks vs. Chicago Blackhawks

The #TankForBedard continues tonight as two of the league’s worst teams square off in Chicago. The Ducks are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to the Stars last night, while the Blackhawks will make their return to the ice for the first time since the break. This one gets underway at 8:30 p.m. ET from the United Center.

I’ll ride with the Hawks on the moneyline in this Western Conference matchup. Albeit by a slim margin, they have an edge in most of the major statistical categories this year. Chicago’s better in terms of overall offense (2.5 GPG vs. 2.4 GPG), on the power play (19.42% vs. 16.11%), overall defense (3.44 GAA vs. 3.88 GAA), and on the penalty kill (75.34% vs. 73.18%).

Being that the Ducks are on the second night of a back-to-back, look for them to go with Anthony Stolarz in net tonight. He’s just 4-6-0 over 18 games played this year and owns a 3.88 GAA and .897 SV%. I like for Chicago to get the two points at home tonight.

Bet: Chicago Blackhawks Moneyline (-130 via DraftKings)
