Carolina Hurricanes vs. Buffalo Sabres
The Hurricanes found themselves down 4-1 last night to the Los Angeles Kings but battled all the way back to win 5-4 in overtime. Carolina collected its sixth straight win, and they'll look to close out the first half with another victory tonight against the Sabres. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, NY.
Carolina's riding high right now, and I'll gladly back them while they're on the win streak. Look for the Canes to ride the momentum from last night's comeback win and collect another two points tonight against an undisciplined team in the Sabres.
While Buffalo boasts the top offense in the league (3.8 GPG), they're notably one of the worst teams when it comes to playing in their own zone. They're 21st in goals allowed per game (3.16 GAA) and own the 28th-ranked penalty-killing unit in the NHL (73.65%). I think this game will simply come down to how much more prepared and well-structured the Hurricanes are as a team. Look for Carolina to rely on its veteran experience and physicality to outlast Buffalo tonight. Give me the Canes.

Boston Bruins vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
The Bruins dropped their third straight game on Sunday, and they find themselves on a losing streak for the first time this season. Their schedule doesn't get any easier as they'll travel to Ontario to take on the Maple Leafs tonight. This one's slated for 7:30 p.m. ET from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON.
In my opinion, this is a great time to bet against the Bruins. They're closing out the first half on the road in a tough environment and taking on an excellent Maple Leafs team. Getting Toronto at +100 right now seems like a gift. They've been strong at home this year, posting a 20-4-4 record over 28 games. On the flip side, eight of Boston's 12 losses have come away from their home ice.
Honestly, that's about the only statistical edge that I can find in favor of the Leafs. There's no denying that the Bruins have been a force this year, and they're better in every major statistical category compared to the Maple Leafs. However, with three straight losses and playing its fifth straight road game, this is a prime spot to fade Boston. Let's take Toronto with the even-money payout.
