NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (10/7)

A condensed 3-game NHL slate on Wednesday night means we’ve got another chance to finally end our season-opening losing skid on the ice. There are some fun matchups, despite the limited games, starting with Penguins vs. Capitals, then Avalanche vs. Jets and Oilers vs. Ducks to close out tonight’s board.

My NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (10/6) settled 0-3. We saw the Wild blow a 2-0 lead in the 3rd period, losing in overtime, while the Islanders’ 5-2 loss to the Rangers and Kraken’s 6-2 loss to the Golden Knights never had a strong chance to cash.

Despite a bad start, I’m sticking with my process. I’ve got three NHL bets, each worth 1 unit, to tail ahead of tonight’s action on the frozen pond.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals Picks

A Metropolitan Division rivalry between the Penguins and Capitals is a great way to start tonight’s slate. Washington is playing its home opener in D.C. following a 1-1 road trip, beating the Hurricanes a5-2 nd losing to the Lightning 3-1.

The Penguins’ 2-0 start ended with a 3-2 loss to the Jets in their last game played. Now, Pittsburgh hits the road with Arturs Silovs expected in net. He’s bounced between a shutout against the Flyers, and giving up 5 goals in a 6-5 win over the Canadiens.

Logan Thompson held the Hurricanes to 2 goals against 33 shots on the road, posting an impressive win over the defending Stanley Cup champions. He’s the key to the low-scoring game tonight.

Unders have hit in 7 straight home games played by the Capitals. This includes seven straight head-to-head matchups at Capital One Arena.

Let’s bet Under 6.5 for Penguins vs. Capitals to end our losing slump.

      Pick: Under 6.5 Goals (-108)

Colorado Avalanche vs. Winnipeg Jets Picks

The Avalanche are unbeaten, which should surprise nobody. However, the Jets’ 2-0-1 start is impressive, and now, Winnipeg gets to host Colorado for a chance to finally dish a loss to their Central Division foe.

This is the first road game played by the Avalanche in the new season. They’ve outscored opponents 14-5, beating the Kings and Blues.

Tonight’s goaltending expects Scott Wedgewood and Stuart Skinner in net. Skinner has allowed 6 goals in 2 starts, losing in overtime to the Bruins and beating the Red Wings. Wedgewood makes his debut for the Avalanche tonight.

Winnipeg’s puck line at +1.5 is only -162 odds, which is good value, considering how well the Jets have played in the early stretch of this season. They’ve scored 3 goals in every start, while covering +1.5 in every contest.

Yes, Colorado is a wagon, but I’m willing to lay the juice on Winnipeg as a home underdog. Bet on the Jets +1.5 at -162 odds.

      Pick: Jets +1.5 (-162)

Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Ducks Picks

The night cap between the Oilers and Ducks should be highly entertaining. The home team has gone 12-2 in the last 14 head-to-head meetings, while the Ducks are 4-1 as a home underdog in their last 5 matchups.

Oddsmakers continue to back the Oilers as a -130 road favorite. However, Devon Levi has a 4.02 GAA, getting bailed out by Edmonton’s high-octane offense. Lukas Dostal has played well for the Ducks in between the pipes, limiting opponents to 5 total goals against 61 shots faced.

The Ducks are 2-0 to start the new season, beating Vegas on the road and logging an overtime win at home against the Panthers. This young roster is surging right now.

Let’s finish tonight’s NHL bets with a home underdog. Bet on the Ducks moneyline at +110 odds.

      Pick: Ducks Moneyline (+110)
