Top 2 NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (11/30)

Just eight teams hit the ice for tonight’s four-game NHL slate, and I’m locking in bets for two of the games. Below I’ll break down the Rangers vs. Senators and Sharks vs. Maple Leafs and get a couple of wagers in.

New York Rangers vs. Ottawa Senators

Over the next three days, the Rangers and Senators square off for a brief home-and-home series. Tonight’s game is set for 7:00 p.m. ET and will take place at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.

I’m going to take the Rangers to come away with the two points tonight. While they haven’t played their best hockey to start the year, I believe they have a much more talented roster than the Senators. Starting with the most important position on the ice, New York has a major edge in goaltending. Igor Shesterkin is expected to be in net tonight, and the reigning Vezina winner is 10-4-3 with a 2.58 GAA and .913 SV%. Building off of that, the Rangers are ninth in goals allowed per game (2.74 opposing gpg) and fifth on the penalty kill (82.61%). I think it will be tough sledding for this mediocre Ottawa offense. Let’s back the Rangers to get the win tonight.

Bet: New York Rangers Moneyline (-130 via DraftKings)

San Jose Sharks vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

The Sharks are amidst a four-game road trip with stops in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and Buffalo. They earned a 4-0 win over the Canadiens last night, and they’ll make the short trip to Toronto for tonight’s showdown with the Leafs. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET from Scotiabank Arena.

These two sides are trending in completely opposite directions, as the Maple Leafs are 7-0-2 over their last nine games, while the Sharks are just 2-4-1 over their last seven. I will not overthink this one and simply ride with Toronto on the puck line tonight. They’re red hot right now, and over the aforementioned nine-game stretch, they’ve outscored opponents 31-19.

Believe it or not, one of the biggest strengths for Toronto this season has been their goaltending. They’ll likely turn to Matt Murray tonight, and he’s gone 5-1-1 this year with a 2.44 GAA and .927 SV%. The team as a whole is allowing just 2.46 goals per game, which ranks fifth in the NHL. These guys should have no issue shutting down a Sharks offense whose leading scorer is a defenseman in Erik Karlsson (11G, 21A). That’s not a dig at Karlsson, but it shows that San Jose lacks top-tier scoring talent on the front end. Look for the Maple Leafs to collect their fifth straight win tonight and do it in a dominant fashion.

Bet: Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 (-120 via DraftKings)
