NHL Parlay Picks: Week 10 (2019)

This past week in the NHL we saw another coach get relieved of his duties. The New Jersey Devils decided to part ways with coach John Hynes after a 9-13-4 start to the season. It was a disappointing first couple months for the Devils, who were coming off a big summer with the first-overall draft pick and a couple large offseason acquisitions.

The Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins continue to run away with the Eastern Conference. Off to a 21-4-5 start to the season, the Caps sit two points ahead of the Bruins with 47 points. The Bruins are winners of their last eight games and have yet to lose at home in regulation (12-0-4). Another dominant team at home this year has been the surging Flyers who have won five straight and are 9-1-4 on home ice. The Maple Leafs and Lightning continue to play inconsistent hockey, and the Red Wings have lost 10 in a row.

In the Western Conference, we have seen a few teams close the gap on the St. Louis Blues. The Colorado Avalanche have four-straight wins and have climbed to third in the conference. After a slow start, the Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights have gained some ground back. Vegas has won four-straight while the Jets have gone 7-3-0 in their last 10. The Minnesota Wild have made the biggest jump after going 7-0-3 in their last 10 and are now in the playoff picture.

Bests Bets of the Weekend

New Jersey Devils at Nashville Predators (Saturday, 8 PM)
The Devils are in the midst of a coaching change and have played some horrendous hockey of late. They will be in the process of learning new systems, and they travel to Nashville to take on the Predators in a tough road spot. New Jersey will be playing on a back-to-back, as they host the Blackhawks Friday then will have to get on a plane to Nashville. The Devils are second-to-last in goals allowed at 3.63 per game and do not create much offense (27th in goals per game). Look for the Preds to improve on their 7-5-4 home record.
The Pick: Nashville Predators moneyline

New York Islanders at Dallas Stars (Saturday, 9 PM)
This matchup features two very defensively-minded hockey teams. They are both top-five in the league in goals allowed per game and have excellent goaltending. Semyon Varlamov and Thomas Greiss have performed admirably in a time-share this season, and Ben Bishop has been spectacular for the Stars. There shouldn’t be much offense in what should be a tightly contested affair.
The Pick: Under 6 goals

San Jose Sharks at Florida Panthers (Saturday, 7 PM)
The Panthers will have back-to-back games on home ice this weekend. On Saturday, San Jose will come to down after playing in Tampa Bay the night before. Both of the backup goalies should be playing this game — which sets up for plenty of scoring. The Panthers have the highest over percentage this year, as they have hit at 72%. Florida is fifth in the league in goals for and 29th in the league in goals against. Meanwhile, the Sharks don’t play much defense, allowed 3.31 goals per game (25th).
The Pick: Over 5.5 goals

New York Rangers at Vegas Golden Knights  (Sunday, 7 PM)
The Rangers travel to Vegas in what will be their third game in four nights. This will be Vegas’ only game of the weekend so they will have the upper hand in terms of rest and should have more energy in this Sunday night matchup.  The Golden Knights have played much better hockey of late, winning four-straight. Meanwhile, the Rangers are a mediocre road team (5-5-1) who give up 3.31 goals per game (25th in the league).
The Pick: Vegas Golden Knights, Moneyline
