NHL Parlay Picks: Week 12 (2019)

This past week we saw the biggest blockbuster trade of the season go down. The New Jersey Devils finally dealt former Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall, as he was traded to the Arizona Coyotes for a few prospects and two first-round draft picks. It’s an exciting time for the Coyotes’ fan base, as they are off to a solid start to the year and now they add an MVP-caliber player to the mix. Hall had an assist in his first game with Arizona on Tuesday night, helping them beat the Sharks 3-2 in his debut.

As we head into the final weekend before Christmas break, it is evident how much parity there is this year in both conferences. In the East, teams ranked six to 12 are all separated by fewer than five points. Currently, both the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs are not in the playoffs. In the West, teams ranked three to eight are only separated by four points. Plenty of hockey is left, but teams will have to begin stringing together some wins quickly if they want to make a push for the postseason.

Bests Bets of the Weekend

Washington Capitals at New Jersey Devils (Friday, 7 PM)
The Capitals have the best away record in the league at 15-3-1 and are coming off a shutout loss to Columbus. They are in a good position to get right, as they will play the 11-17-5 Devils who currently sit second-to-last in the Eastern Conference. The Devils have allowed the second-most goals per game, and they will face a high-powered Capitals’ offense on Friday night who are third in the league in goals per game. Expect Ovechkin and company to get back in the win column.
The Pick: Washington Capitals, Moneyline

Anaheim Ducks at New York Islanders (Saturday, 1 PM)
Two defensive-minded teams will square off in a Saturday afternoon hockey game in New York. The Islanders have allowed the fourth-fewest goals per game, and they will face an Anaheim team who struggles to put up much offense (29th in the league in goals per game). Both teams have solid goaltending in John Gibson and Semyon Varlamov, so I expect a tightly checked, low-scoring affair.
The Pick: Under 6 Goals

Detroit Red Wings at Toronto Maple Leafs (Saturday, 7 PM)
Since Sheldon Keefe took over coaching duties for the Maple Leafs, Toronto has won eight of their last 12 and appear to be turning things around. Their offense is clicking of late, and they have Marner back in the lineup. They will host the last-place Red Wings, who have really struggled on both ends of the ice. The matchup will feature two lackluster goaltenders in Michael Hutchinson (Leafs) and Jonathan Bernier (Red Wings). I expect some goals to be scored and the total to go over.
The Pick: Over 5.5 Goals

Chicago Blackhawks at Colorado Avalanche (Saturday, 9 PM)
The Avalanche have been the hottest team in the NHL of late – going 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. They are 10-3-2 at home and face a Blackhawks team that has really struggled on the road (5-8-3). Nate McKinnon and the Avalanche have scored the most goals per game in the league (3.62), and face a Chicago team who give up the most shots per game in the NHL (36). Expect the Avalanche to continue their winning ways Saturday night at home.
The Pick: Colorado Avalanche, Moneyline
