NHL Parlay Picks: Week 14 (2020)

The Winter Classic on New Year’s Day officially kicked off the new calendar year for the NHL. In front of several thousand fans at Cotton Bowl Arena, the Dallas Stars battled back to defeat the Nashville Predators 4-2 in a thrilling victory. Defenseman Andrej Sekera scored his first goal in a Stars’ uniform, while talented forward Alexander Radulov scored the game-winner on a power play.

We are officially at the half-way point of the regular season, and teams are starting to make some big runs to make up ground in their divisions. In the Atlantic division, the Maple Leafs and Lightning have been the hottest teams in the last 10 games. Toronto is now in second after going 8-1-1 in their last 10, while Tampa Bay has climbed up to third place after going 7-2-1 in their last 10. The Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins are only separated by one point atop the Eastern Conference.

In the Western Conference, the St. Louis Blues hold a commanding eight-point lead. The Avalanche, Stars, and Golden Knights are all tied for second, and it will be a fun half of the season as teams jockey for playoff position. The Arizona Coyotes were hoping Taylor Hall could give the team more of a boost, as they have gone a lackluster 4-6 in their last ten games.

Bests Bets of the Weekend

Detroit Red Wings at Dallas Stars (Friday, 7 PM)
The Stars are coming off a character win on New Year’s day against the Predators, and they have to be feeling good about the way they’re playing of late. Dallas has won three-straight games, and they look ready to go on a big run after a slow start to the season. The Stars are 14-6-2 at home and will be playing the last-place Red Wings Friday night. The Wings score the lowest number of goals per game, and the Stars allow the second-fewest goals per game. It is a nice matchup for Dallas, and I like them to cover the puck line here.
The Pick: Dallas Stars, Puck line

Tampa Bay Lightning at Ottawa Senators (Saturday, 7 PM)
The Lightning are finally beginning to play like the defending Presidents’ Trophy winners. Winners of four straight, Tampa has scored 19 goals in their last four games, and they are clicking offensively. This recent scoring stretch has put them in second place in total goals per game (3.58). Their power play is also second in the league, scoring nearly 30 percent of the time on the man-advantage. The Senators should be a favorable matchup for the Lightning, as Tampa’s balanced scoring attack should prove too much for them to handle.
The Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning, Moneyline

Colorado Avalanche at New Jersey Devils (Saturday, 7 PM)
The Avalanche are in a bit of a slump right now, as they have lost three in a row. However, their roster is finally healthy, and they are one of the best road teams in the league, with a 13-6-2 record. The Devils are second-last in the Eastern Conference and allow the second-most goals per game. The Avs lead the entire NHL with 3.6 goals per game, so on paper, this is a great matchup for them. Take the Avalanche on the moneyline.
The Pick: Colorado Avalanche, Moneyline

Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks (Sunday, 7:30 PM)
This will be the Blackhawks’ only game of the weekend. They will face a Red Wings team that is playing their second game in three nights (with travel). It is a good spot for the streaking Blackhawks, who have won three straight. Patrick Kane is coming off a two-goal, two-assist performance against the Flames. He will look to lead the Hawks at home as they go for their fourth straight.
The Pick: Chicago Blackhawks, Moneyline
