NHL Playoffs Same Game Parlay Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (5/10)

One unexpected team is on the verge of pulling out the brooms, and with how they’ve been playing, it could happen. The other game is the 2-1 moment, where the big swing in the series happens for either team.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Florida Panthers

  • Leg 1: Panthers Moneyline (+110)
  • Leg 2: OVER 6.5 Total Goals (-135)
  • Leg 3: Panthers OVER 3.5 Total Goals (+120)

Don't look now, but the Panthers are on the brink of another upset series win, and this time they don't need the comeback. The offense continues to be fast-paced and efficient with their puck movement, and while the Maple Leafs' blue line has talent, they don't have the depth to defend consistently.

Florida’s offense and special teams have been outstanding, as the team is averaging 4.16 goals in the last six games and are 38.4% on the power play. It is shocking that Matthew Tkachuk has zero goals but has contributed with four assists.

The X-factor has been Sergei Bobrovsky between the pipes. He looks like a Vezina Trophy winner, earning two three-stars and a one-star in this series.

Toronto's stats aren’t that far from Florida’s. Just five fewer shots, one less faceoff win, and less than one percent expected goal percentage. It has all come down to goaltending so far.

That’s where the Maple Leafs will be at a large disadvantage. With the season on the line, they will unfortunately not have Ilya Samsonov (upper body) in the crease after he left Game 3 following of a collision. Joseph Woll replaced him but was lit up for three goals in the loss. Matt Murray hasn’t played since April 2nd, so it looks like Woll will get the start.

With everything stacked against them, Toronto's best chance is to catch Borbrovsky on a bad day. That looks impossible at this point, but at least Leafs can say they won a series.

Vegas Golden Knights at Edmonton Oilers

  • Leg 1: Oilers -1.5 (+125)
  • Leg 2: OVER 6.5 Total Goals (-150)
  • Leg 3: Oilers OVER 3.5 Total Goals (-145)

The Oilers had the momentum as they went home after a four-goal win in Vegas. The Golden Knights decided to return the favor and win by four in Edmonton.

This is still a dangerous offense with the most goals per game in the regular season and three guys who scored 100 points. Leon Draisaital has been the best player in the playoffs, along with Connor McDavid, who has 15 points (5G 10A), and Evan Bouchard has 11 assists, but one superstar struggling is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins who's left the lamp dark in the playoffs.

Surprisingly Edmonton's even-strength offense has been poor, and they have the lowest expected goals when they're 5-on-5. They've been generating all of their scoring on the power play.

We've talked about Stuart Skinner's struggles during the playoffs. It's been brushed off because the offense has done so well, but he never allowed his team to stay in this matchup, and you wonder if Jack Campbell will get the start.

On the opposite end, Vegas is playing well on even strength, but the power play has struggled. They got what the Oilers have done so far - their stars making contributions. Jonathan Marchessault has been quiet in the playoffs but finally netted his first two goals. Jack Eichel got the one-star thanks to his three-point performance (1G 2A), and Chandler Stephenson grabbed a goal himself.

Most of the Oilers’ scoring coming from the power play is a trend you don’t like to see, but they were fifth in even strength expected goals during the regular season. This team is tough to keep contained for multiple games, and I like them to bounce back at home.
