NHL Same Game Parlay Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (12/10)

The NHL is gifting us an enormous 11-game slate tonight, giving us plenty of great games to bet on across the league. One of the matchups that jump off the page is between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference when the New Jersey Devils host the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Tuesday night.

My +152 NHL SGP between the Islanders and Canadiens settled as a win during Montreal’s 2-1 overtime win over New York last Tuesday. Juraj Slafkovsky recorded the game’s first shot on goal but wound up finishing with under 1.5 shots on goal, which kept us on our toes until the Canadiens buried the game-winning goal in overtime.

Let’s keep our hot streak on the ice rolling with another NHL SGP to bet between the Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more NHL free bets and weekly analysis.

Tuesday's NHL SGP: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. New Jersey Devils

                  (Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

                  Toronto Maple Leafs (+115) vs. New Jersey Devils (-138) | O/U  6.5 (+100/-122)

                  Under 7.5 Total Goals (-530)

A lot of trends in this head-to-head matchup between Toronto and New Jersey suggest that the goal total will go over 6.5. However, with Jacob Markstrom already confirmed in the net for the Devils, and Anthony Stolarz expected to suit up for the Maple Leafs, goal scoring may be a bit more limited in tonight’s contest.

The Devils have gone under 7.5 total goals in five of their last seven games, with Markstrom allowing three total goals across his last two starts against the Rangers and Kraken. Toronto is riding a two-game losing skid, dropping their last game to Pittsburgh 5-2. The Maple Leafs have recorded 785 total shots on goal, 20th in the NHL, compared to the Devils, who lead the league in shots on goal with 908.

Stolarz and Markstrom both have a GAA of 2.22 and 2.51 respectively, which means we’ll likely see some quality play from both netminders tonight at the Prudential Center. For a bit of insurance, let’s buy up one goal and insert under 7.5 total goals as the first leg of our NHL Same Game Parlay.

                  New Jersey Devils Moneyline (-140)

We’re keeping it simple and betting on the Devils’ moneyline odds as marginal home favorites against the Maple Leafs tonight. New Jersey is 0-8 SU in its last eight home games against Toronto but that will change with Markstrom in between the pipes. He recorded 38 saves against 39 shots from the Rangers last Monday and New Jersey also had an abysmal home record against New York prior to their 5-1 rout of the Rangers.

This feels like a similar situation. Factor in New Jersey head coach Sheldon Keefe’s prior tenure with Toronto and he’ll know exactly how to scheme plays and swap personnel to counter the Maple Leafs’ strengths. Yes, the Devils lost 4-2 at Toronto earlier in the season with Markstrom in the net, but New Jersey’s offense is firing on all cylinders and they also hold the edge in goaltending over Stolarz.

Stolarz has allowed three to four goals against Boston, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Florida. The Devils are among the best offenses in the NHL and spray the net with accurate pucks, controlling the time of possession, and dictating the pace of the game. An ugly 4-0 loss to Colorado didn’t have Markstrom in the crease, so let’s back New Jersey to win outright and end their losing woes at home against Toronto in another opportunity for a revenge game from Keefe.

                  SGP (+121)

Our NHL SGP is at +121 odds with only two legs. This time, we’re ignoring the player props and focusing exclusively on the total and moneyline betting markets. First, we’re buying a goal to get to under 7.5, which has hit in seven of Toronto’s last eight games played. Then, we’re inserting the Devils moneyline odds at -140 to take our NHL Same Game Parlay into plus odds.
New Jersey hasn’t lost back-to-back games since October 24th and 25th, plus they have their ace goaltender in the crease tonight at home. It’s enough to warrant placing a unit on under 7.5 total goals and New Jersey’s moneyline in our latest NHL Same Game Parlay at +121 odds ahead of tonight’s opening puck drop between the Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils.
