NHL Same Game Parlay Picks & Predictions: Tuesday (12/31)
We’re back to the ice after an extended break due to the holiday season. The NHL has a massive slate on tap for Tuesday’s New Year’s Eve betting board, so there are a lot of betting markets, teams, and players to target when it comes to constructing our latest NHL Same Game Parlay.
My last article on December 17th resulted in a +156 NHL SGP win between the Devils and Blues. New Jersey’s 4-1 road win in St. Louis settled as a win thanks to the Blues’ lone goal managing to cover +3.5, while the goal total went under 6.5, and Pavel Buchnevich once again failed to record over 2.5 shots on goal for St. Louis.
I’m going right back to the well with the red-hot New Jersey Devils on the road against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more NHL free bets and weekly analysis.
Tuesday's NHL SGP: New Jersey Devils vs. Anaheim Ducks
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
New Jersey Devils (-285) vs. St. Louis Blues (+230) | O/U 6.5 (+100/-122)
Under 8.5 Total Goals (-520)
We’re going to start with buying a couple of goals and insert under 8.5 as the first leg of our NHL Same Game Parlay. Right now, Jacob Markstrom is expected but not confirmed to be in the crease for the Devils tonight. He’s been playing phenomenal in between the pipes, allowing two or fewer goals in nine consecutive starts for New Jersey.
Anaheim’s goaltender, John Gibson, is expected back from an illness tonight at home. Gibson is allowing a 2.93 GAA with a .906 save percentage. He’s the reason we’re buying up to 8.5 from 6.5 in this matchup against the Devils, who take the most shots on goal in the league.
Even if Gibson allows four to five goals to New Jersey, which is likely, we should see the goal total come in under 8.5. The Devils have gone under 8.5 total goals in 12 straight games, while the Ducks have gone under 8.5 in 11 of their last 12 games played. Gibson was not in the net for the Ducks during their 5-4 shootout loss to Utah.
New Jersey Devils Puck Line (-110)
The Devils’ puck line is too tempting to pass on. Yes, each of these teams has at least two losses in their last five games but Markstrom did not start during New Jersey’s 5-2 road loss to Carolina in their last outing. Markstrom has won six straight starts and all of these have been by at least a two-goal margin.
Anaheim is bottom-eight in terms of shots on goal, so they’ll be on their heels in the defensive zone for the majority of this contest. The favorites have covered the puck like in seven of New Jersey’s last eight games played and the Ducks have lost 10 straight games at home after recording a win.
Yes, the Ducks did just beat the Oilers 5-3 but the Devils have an extra day of rest. Plus, New Jersey won 6-2 at the Prudential Center in late October. Markstrom didn’t play during the Devils’ other recent loss to Columbus on the road, so as long as he draws the start tonight at the Honda Center, backing New Jersey -1.5 is a strong second leg in our NHL Same Game Parlay.
SGP (+128)
We’re buying a couple of goals and going under 8.5 total goals between New Jersey and Anaheim. This is primarily due to Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom expected to start in the net, who has been one of the best netminders in the league during December.
Anaheim is among the worst teams when it comes to shots on goal and they’ll be going up against the top-ranked team in the league in terms of shots on goal metrics. Ducks goaltender John Gibson has allowed three or more goals in five straight starts, so we should see this game turn lopsided fairly quick.
We’ve got a +128 NHL SGP with these two legs during tonight’s 8 p.m. ET puck drop between the New Jersey Devils vs. Anaheim Ducks. Let’s ring in the New Year with a plus-odds NHL Same Game Parlay, backing the Devils to beat the Ducks by two or more, with less than nine total goals scored.
